Is this a Lube you can buy from vendors or do you have to get from the manufacturing company?

I buy it in the "life-time" tube size from McMaster-Carr, but I couldn't find it listed. You can get it from here....

Mile High Shooting Accessories has CMD Gun Lube. Click on the link.

When I called several years ago, CMD told me that their Gun Lube and their Extreme Pressure Lube #3 were identical except for packaging. (When I asked if there was a local vendor where I could buy a tube, the nice lady on the phone searched for several minutes and finally said, "I can't find one close, so I'll just send you a tube for free.")

GunDr's post above lists a source for CMD Extreme Pressure Lube #3.

Free is about all it's worth. Sorriest excuse for gun lube I've ever used. Hard as concrete in the winter, and runs out of the tube in the summer if you lay it flat.

I had two tubes, gave them a way. Too messy & stains too. Look @ Super Lube specs. Really can't be beat.

I buy Super Lube on line.

Have to agree with Phil.

I use Super Lube or Tetra Lube - no stains, less mess...

Ok, Thanks for all your opinions. I did some checking:

Krytox GPL205 - .5 for $28.00 plus shipping on Amazon.com
Super Lube - 3 oz for $7.99 plus shipping
Tetra - 1 oz. for $4.99 plus shipping
CMD - 4 oz. for $8.98 plus shipping

All four are sold in tubes. I've never used any of the four, right now I'm using STOS and it seems to be breaking down rather quickly.

Never tried Super Lube. Have been using CMD for several years and have been pleased with its performance. Yes in cold weather you may find it a bit stiff and in real hot weather a little thin. Still superior to the red synthetic (high dollar) gun grease in a syringe which runs everywhere even in moderate weather or STOS which seems to "push out" more readily under pressure. But just to prove that I am willing to try something new I bought a tube of the Super Lube so I can compare it side by side with the CMD. We'll see where that takes me.

You can buy 2 oz of Krytox 205 at the Amazon price for .5 oz from McMaster-Carr in Jersey.

It makes Super Lube and CMD look and function like Vaseline and Crisco.

I started using it when the guys from Kolar gave me a sample tube and now use nothing but... good stuff. I do have to agree that in the winter it was rock hard if I left it in the truck... after a few minutes indoors it softened up, but I never found it runny during warm weather...

This in one of the most comprehensive use-specific tests of greases I've ever read. All the greases tested are listed and rated at the end of the article.

It was done by S & S Machine Co. which among other things manufacturers bicycle torque couplings that allow bicycle frames to be disassembled into sections so they can be cased and taken along when traveling. They were looking for a grease that would reliably lubricate the threads on their couplings to prevent seizing. This is what they found:

S & S Machine Grease Test

They do include a disclaimer that their test was targeted specifically at the problem of galling and that they make no representation of how well the greases will perform in other applications.

Bernie... if the CMD is still available, I'll pay the freight! I just didn't want to get in the way of Pullin Clay...

I have always used super lube but my k80 does not open near as smooth or as easy with it. I keep telling myself my gun just needs to break in more so I go back to it and it just does not cut it in this stage of my k80 new life. I had a tube of CMD left over from my Kolar so I decided to try it and believe it or not it opens and closes much easier. Not just a little easier but a bunch easier. Go figure.

CMD is the Gun Lube of Tomarrow, here Today, and it works very well, I have never ever seen it runny. I gave some to another shooter for his hard opening gun and it immeaditly got easier opening and closing, and it is a Fantastic Choke Tube Grease, seals the gasses and the tubes come out easily.

It's hard to believe that the CMD gets runny. The tool shop that works along side of Kolar uses it as a center lube on their lathes and cylindrical grinders. I've used it several times to center parts on the lathe running at several hundred RPMs and it doesn't sling any grease around the shop.

While I was at Kolar, all 3800 Rem 90-Ts had their barrels and forend irons fitted with this grease, along with all the Kolar Guns, and never once experienced any galling.

If anyone experiences staining on their nickel plated guns is because the nickel is of poor quality...especially the Berettas.

It should be noted that is does stiffen in the extreme cold, so it should only be used on the joint roll areas, not on the ejecters or cocking rods or bars.

I got my tube from Norbert Hausmann at Krieghoff when he was the head gunsmith there. Norbert told me to use CMD on my Kreighoffs and I have. It is a bit messy, but it cleans up with little effort and really lubricates. I never worry about it in the summertime. Oils run, but not CMD.

My thanks to Bernie (Dixie Special 25) for sending me a tube of CMD... with much appreciation!
