How many 200 straights were there in the Clay Target Championship at the 1968 Grand American.

Strictly Clay Target Championship event only, how many 200 straights

My computer will not let me read a PDF file even though I have Adobe Reader

I have tried Trap & Field history for 1968. Where can I research this.

Forty one, but only 40 shot off. One took a category.

That was in the Clay Target only. There were 13 and 13 in other events. Total for the year, 67!

I'll tell you, this stuff is getting to be harder and harder for me to remember! How did Betty Ann ever do it?

According to the 75 Years of The Grand Book 1968 Clay Target was a then Record setting 44 shooters tied with 200's. Only reason I even checked was the Model 12 that won that year is in my Basement and I couldn't remember how many it was.

So do you suppose the softened the setting so more could shoot off?

What year was it that there was only one 200 in the Dayton Homecoming?

I remember the 1928 Grand. By God, back then we shot with coats and ties, using old paper-wadded shells. We need to go back to those days...not these pu$$y targets we shoot today in comfortable clothes and with 1500 FPS shells.

Lit,

Were you in the Vet class back then or was that a year later?

grntitan: Oh for cryin' out loud. I'm not that damned old. I was a junior in 1928. (and hated the stupid tie, white shirt, and wool jacket I had to wear.)

4E is correct. The Clay Target had 44 200's, not 41, and so the total for the CTC, Preliminary, and Class-championships was 70. I regret the error.

Neil:

Your comment on Betty Ann was right on. I saw her at this year's Southern Grand and probably have not seen her in at least 15 years. As I walked by her, I didn't notice her and she put her hand out and said:
"Don't you say hello?" I realized who it was and she said:"Your Bobby Gibson, from Washington,PA.

"There is my son in law over there, Doug Bedwell (one of the 200's in 68)

She knew everyone and their accomplishments. She asked me about another junior shooter that I used to shoot with who has since passed and she remembered a picture that she had put in T&F with my friend and Britt Robinson, his hero. She was an is a vault of information.

Bob, take Betty Ann, Joan Davis, and Bonny Nash together and they knew more, remembered more, than all the rest of us put together! What a group they were and how much fun it was to talk to them all!

The Ohio State Shoot was won one year w/one in state 200 Dr. Dale Millar I had a 199. I think there were more when you count out of state shooters.

But he had the Lone In State 200 approx 1969-70.

Don,

There were 1,694 entries in the North American Clay Target Championship.

Some might find it interesting to know that from 1957 to 1967 there were only a total of 68 200 straights in the Clay Target Championship the highest number, 11, being achieved in 1966.

For those wondering about the other years:

'57 - 6

'58 - 1

'59 - 6

'60 - 9

'61 - 9

'62 - 5

'63 - 4

'64 - 4

'65 - 6

'66 - 11

'67 - 7

'68 - 44

A total of 256 200-straights were recorded in that 11-year period in the four days these events were shot each year. The highest year was 1967 with 40 200-straights. The low years were 1957 and 1962 having 13 and 16 straigts respectively.

At the 1968 Grand American there were three 200-target event days not four as previous.

On Monday 13 200's came in.

On Tuesday, 13 200's came in.

On Wednesday, in the Clay Target Championship, 44 200-straights were recorded making a total of 70 for the three days.

Kenny,

Thanks, by my math, there was about 2.6% of shooters in 1968 that broke the 200 in the Clay Target. In 2013, I believe there were 25 shooters who broke the 200 out of about 2,600 shooters. That would put the % at about 1% who broke a 200.
