I loaded 1k last summer. Had 2/100 pierce in my Kolar. Which is a huge improvement from the 1k I loaded several years prior that had over half pierce. I will have no reservations about using them once my W209s run out.

Has any one had a problem with Cheddite Primers being pierced by the firing pin?
My k80 does, and once in awhile my Kolar will puncture the top barre. If you are puncturing them check to see if your firing pins are chipped…if no… stop using cheddites or you will have chips…and you will puncture all the other primers. Good 👍 shooting.

Never. 8,000 used, in 90T with protrusion reworked to .065" and extra heavy spring, Citoris of all kinds and 1100s. Not even once. I did have a Citori firing pin crater about 3 years ago.

All you guy’s that say to use different primers it’s not that easy around here.
The other manufactures are non existent and Cheddites are getting hard to
find. I have loaded well over 100,000 Cheddites in the last 10 years and I had
a KX6 Special that would pierce one every once in awhile. Other than that my
Perazzi’s, Berretta’s, Browning’s, Winchester’s and Remington’s do not.

One shotgun...a 1935 Winchester M12 20 ga that just had the firing pin replaced a couple months ago was piercing Cheddites at a 40% rate. (One out of the many shotguns I own and shoot frequently, and only one that pierced Cheddite primers). So I started cautiously removing about 0.005" of firing pin tip and reshaping it, with the quantity of pieced primers getting less with every shortening. On the fifth try I'd shortened it a total of 0.023" over-all-length and now have no more pierced Cheddite primers.

A much quicker way to accomplish the same thing would be to compare indentation depth in empty fired cases from my other shotguns that do not pierce Cheddites vs the depth of indentation on the batch with pierced primers. Comparing indentation, I found that I should have shortened the pin about 0.023" right away as that is exactly where I end up after five trials. Note that I measured indentation depth with an old plastic case OAL gauge for for rifle reloading that had a small diameter steel protruding pin/rod and a vernier caliper on the other end. My usual dial indicator caliper has a larger rectangular pin the won't measure the primer indentation as it too large.

Max protrusion of firing pin should be around .055" to .065". I had the other side of OP's problem on my 90T, with misfires. Reworking the firing pin and an extra strong spring from Wolff made the problem go away.
