I own 3 so I am bias. Best starter gun out there. You can smoke birds with the best of them with a 99. There are fancier guns, there are better guns but $ for $ it is a damn good buy. Older ones (pre 2001) are better than new ones. No one will saw "wow that guy is shooting a 99" but it sound like you are not looking for a status symbol

I have owned 3 BT's over the years (old and new style) and have tried other guns (Beretta's, Perazzi, etc) and have always gone back. I bought a new BT99 80/20 fully adjustable from Guns Unlimited 2 years ago and it got me to the 27 yard line. 10k+ rounds through it now and it's as tight as the day I bought it. I have looked at getting something higher grade, but I just can't bring myself to do it when I shoot the BT so well.

I have bone 3BT 99's in my lifetime. I currently own two One '70's version I recently purchased. It needed a good cleaning after I purchased it but she is shooting by now The gunsmith put it through some type of ultra sonic machine.

Sorry to ask a question but could you elaborate on what "80/20" means

Probably one of the most common guns on the trap line. Very durable. Priced right. Really can't go wrong with a new or well cared for used model. If you can find one with screw in chokes for a good price all the better. If not, full choke seems to work for most things.

I personally I would never recommend a single barrel shotgun to a new shooter who does not already own a O/U. Once you start shooting you will want to try all 3 games at some point. I say buy a O/U to start with, then if/and when you want, or need to buy a dedicated single barrel trap gun. The CXT O/U Browning is hard to beat for about $400 more brand new. Get this one gun fitted to you (after about a month) and your good to go!!! Beware of the shooter with only one gun!!! break em all Jeff

This is one of the most ignorant comments I have read in months! A Browning Bt-99 isn't a "real" gun? That's weird, mine breaks real targets. The guns you mentioned are not starter guns! The Bt-99 is a perfect starter trap gun. If you rebuild them every few years they will last a lifetime.

Bt99 is for certain a solid gun, but as a new shooter I would suggest you visit a trap range, talk to some of the experienced shooters and get their opinions/suggestions. You will likely get offered to trial shoot one of their guns (if in the same class). I've owned lots of trap guns (including a new BT99 bought in 1970-71 new in box for $350.) and while it was a rock solid gun, it just did not fit me. I still have that BT99 in the original box. My quick 3 consider: Rem 870 Trap, Rem 1100/11-87 Trap, or a Beretta Urika Trap. The auto's shoot much softer (less felt recoil) and that's important, especially for a new shooter. The 870 is tried and true (it won events for me) and can be made to fit you at a relatively low cost.

I won mine at a friends of the NRA banquette, best $10 dollars i've ever spent. I've had for 5 months and am around 2,000 rounds. My previous gun was an 11/87 premier with a left handed cant on the stock (I'm right handed) that I had been shooting since I was 13 and could consistently average around 23 with. I wish I would have spent the money and gotten a BT sooner. The auto loader was nice to learn with but something about the BT just fits like a glove. I'm having fewer instances of pulling my face off the gun on hard rights and lefts. The only issue I've had is occasionally shooting over straight aways because old habits die hard. The only change I've made with the gun is an extended IM choke but that is a matter of preference. We'll see how it does this weekend, headed to my first registered shoot on Sunday.

I bought my first new in February of 78 and still shoot it. I've owned as many as 5 at the same time but I'm down to just 3 now. You have to have a backup gun for your backup gun you know. I love the high shooters made in the 70's with the long tang and fixed chokes. I have only had to replace the ejector extension when it broke a few years ago and it's on it's 3rd recoil pad. I won't live long enough to wear it out.

Started with an earlier beavertail 32. Traded it for a semi beaver 34, which ultimately got sold when I bought my Pigeon-grade 2, with deep relief engraving. My guest gun is a nickel plated, laminated stock version...

Great guns, easy to shoot...

The Guns Unlimited is the one I'm looking at - The ADJ one.
I don't need a second bbl for trap they don't shoot dbls at my club.
Once in a while people will play with a little handicap.
Main purpose will be beer league type shooting.
I can't get serious til retirement - I can finally hold weekends off.
It only took me 27yrs.
My O/U is for sporting/skeet.

Been shooting 5ish years, the last 3 with my Dad's BT. It's a great gun, I really love shooting it and my scores keep going up. Only trouble is that I like to shoot the other disciplines, too, and you need two shots. Either way, make sure it fits you or get it fit. Everything is so much harder if the gun doesn't fit.

Good luck and have fun!!

Maybe my BT isn't real either or the targets. I'm going right now to check that damn gun. Lol

For the amount of "money" there is simply no better Single Barrel trap gun out there.! A Good BT-99 will last you for a lifetime. They are are simple and dependable, cheap to repair, and parts are plentiful if anything does break on it ! Also you can but a half dozen of them for the price of a high dollar P or K gun!!! If you ever decide to sell it ,you will come closer to getting your money back than with most guns. Some people call them "starter guns" but, I know several shooters who have shot them all their lives and have no reason OR desire to buy anything else!

I feel like if you wanna take your game to whole another level or by the best Money can buy you (krieghoff Standard grade 11,900k -) Hand made. amazing triggers, perfectly balanced,) wouldn't you fill more confident?
Taking your game to another level does not have anything to do with the brand of gun or how much you pay for it. Research the Bartholow brothers Matt and Foster.

Well I'm not a world champion and never will be.
Heck I haven't even shot a registered trap target yet.
I'm hoping to get started this year yet but it will only
be turkey shoots and solo league.
By spring I would like to go ATA and at least not finish last.
I just wanted to get a feel about the strength of the BT.
Looks like it will fit what I need.
Something adjustable and tested.
Down the road if I feel I ready I'll have some measurements
to go by for a so called real gun.
Skeet is still my first love and I guess sporting can fill in since
skeet pretty much is dying up here.
