I have a Bt-99 plus
Bought brand new ~6 months ago. About 3k shots throughout it

Clean and lube w shooters choice. no galling. cleaned before and after shooting

Noticed past 2 times out to the trap range, that I really have to squeeze pretty hard ( more than usual) the barrel and forearm together in order for the latch to "click" in.

took it back apart, checked all surfaces...everything looks clean and intact. no build up that I see.

Should I be worried about this new difficulty? Anything else I should look out for?

Maybe you should check and make sure that the screws under the forearm are tight. I put purple loctite on mine because they always seem to work loose. Just a small drop of purple low strength loctite and never another problem.

Have the same problem with new BT 99 I bought for my wife. We called Browning and they told us to strike the latch with a soft mallet to close it. That's how we assemble ours and it's certainly less painful than hitting it with your palm.

The for end wood may have accepted moisture (higher humidity) and has swelled near the front. This allows the forend wood to make too much contact with the barrel before the latch can close. I see this more during the spring than the other seasons

GunDr, Browning told us that too and that it should fit easier with time. Since our guns are assembled and kept in a case it's no big deal. I only disassemble to clean and soft mallet is at my cleaning bench.

But not in our life time. I`m waiting for my 3rd BT-99 Plus. I picked up the 1st one on June 26, 2014, it had the worst looking butt stock of any gun, and I mean any gun I have ever seen. June 28 sent to Browning in Arnold, MO. Logged in July 1st 2014. Called every 2-3 weeks to check on it. They always said stock work takes a long time. Call in Nov. an they told me the parts were being held up by "CUSTOMS". I said what parts, It needed a new stock. That called got me pissed, called Utah Browning and the kind lady on the other end said she understood and hooked me up with a manager, read him the riot act ( I was pissed) and he said hold on a second, he said he found a new one for me an I should have it about 2 weeks. Well 4 days later I had a new BT-99 PLUS showed up at my door. Yea. That one had much better wood then the 1st one but the butt stock did not fit receiver and it was loose. And as far as forearm goes once you got it back on the bbls. you had to play hell to get it back off. The latch was way to hard to move. Sent it back Jan. 2015. The story on that one was the wood shrunk, new wood will take about 4 months or they will send me 2015 model BT-99Plus sometime in March. I said send me a new one. I`m still waiting. Will let you all know when I get one. Joe

They told me the wood would relax to fit the gun. And I also had to provide my own mallet. Believe they should include one in the new gun box. Maybe even put a Browning logo on it. I know that's how things worked when I worked as an engineer at a large company (happily retired now). If we went to production with a design or manufacturing problem marketing would put a spin on it to try and make it sound like a desirable feature.

"Get your new Browning with Browning embossed mallet and wood finishing kit complete with Brownings own specially developed wood stain and sealant".

First Browning I've ever had a problem with. After dealing with customer service for the first time will not likely buy any more from them.
