Hi guys!!
I’m new to the forum and was hoping to access the collective wisdom of this community.
I have a new to me first generation BT99 which Rigby used as a base to build a trap gun in the 1970’s.
Initially when shooting it ,it would fail to cock when opening the action about every 15-20 rounds.
I got the feeling that I was not opening the gun to the full extent and that was the main reason it didn’t want to cock. When I was a bit more forceful with the opening of the action the gun cocked.
Fast Forward about 3 rounds of shooting and the issue became more prevalent happening every 3 to 4 th shot.
Now it doesn’t want to cock at all.
So I removed the stock , cleaned every visible part, used compressed air to reach every nook and cranny and lubed all the parts.
Still no go on cocking. I saw the small trigger spring was missing, so I ordered this part and after a 4 month wait I was able to install it. Unfortunately it didn’t change a thing.
As the hammer was down I manually recocked the gun by pressing down on the front part of the cocking bar. I am able to cock the gun this way.
On one forum a gentleman suggested to another person to make sure that the cocking bar overtravels a bit .
He however does not elaborate on how to achieve this.
I almost feel if it just goes a bit further the gun would cock.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Regards
