I have a Blaser F3 Super Trap. I love the gun - the balance and soft shooting make it a real pleasure. However, every so often, the gun "jams" when opening. It hangs up just as the gun begins to break. I notice a very small contact point - a rounding on the bottom of the shell base on those shells that have hung up - as if the bottom of the shell is pinched against the breech face. I thought the issue was not moving the lever fully to the right but that's not it. Any thoughts?

Any particular brand or power level of shell or just any shell sometimes? My buddy had real issues with RIO 1 1/8 @ 1145 in his F3 sport during doubles it looked like he was trying to break the gun over his knee when all he was really trying to do was get it to open. It sounds like a headspace issue where the rim groove is at minimum depth.

I believe your Problem is your bottom firing pin is extended out and not going into receiver when you open/cock the gun. When the gun opens the barrel is dragging on the extended firing pin. I just had the same problem. Getting it repaired at Pa. state shoot. I was told Rio shells are a problem in Blasers due to type of primer they use. This will be my second firing pin in two months.. Any problems with your Blaser Pylinski Arms warranty rep for blaser will be at the PA state and the Ohio state. He is outstanding. Andra, Blasers gunsmith will be at the Ohio state. Blaser is aware of the problem i called them. They said no problem the issue will be corrected. I like my Blaser.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm headed to the PA shoot Sunday and will bring the gun to Pylinski Arms.
It does seem to happen more with Estate shells than Winchester. Regardless - time to get it fixed!

Dixie Special 25,

I realize only Ljutics walk on water...however the issue is not so much the gun ans it is the shells. The premium target loads like "AA", Nitro, STS, and Federal Champs or Paper are not an issue with a Blaser as the primer cup is soft brass or copper. I shoot a Blaser and the only shells that give me an occasional problem are the bargain Win. Super Targets and the Federal Estates.

Shotshell manufacturers are cutting costs any way they can to avoid increasing the costs of ammo. (...not to mention increasing profits...) It seems there are some unusual alloys being used for primer cups these days. The retraction springs on the Blaser are not strong enough to pull the firing pin back out of the primer after the shell "sets back" upon firing. (Ljutic's were notorious for this a few years ago.) I'm sure the folks at Blaser have a remedy for this by now and will address the issue for their customers as they arise.

Ditto what Bob said. The cheap stuff sticks in Ljutics, Alfs, and other guns as well. Blaser can adjust your ejectors in most cases.

My AA and STS reloads eject fine, but periodically the cheap stuff won't.

Oh come on folks. If the firing pin is not retracting like it should it is NOT a shell issue it is a GUN issue. Certain primer caps may be harder than others so the effort needed to drag the protruding pin across them is more than the softer caps but the pin is still protruding and dragging even on the premium stuff (IF that is truly the issue).

If I pay $1000 dollars for a no name O/U I still expect it to handle whatever factory ammo I put in it and bitch at the GUN when it doesn't why should that change for a $10000 gun?

I have to agree with chipking on this. Sticking because of a steel hull and/or tight chamber is different than having the firing pin not retract properly.

I am not sure what our friends across the Great Pond shoot but most do not reload. So, I assume they use a lot of "euro-trash" hulls with "hard" primers. One would think the "problem" would have been discovered in pre-production trials.

I agree gun should function with any shell. Heck I have two friends that shoot a Krieghoff and a Bretta and neither of them are having problems with Rio shells. For some reason Rio shells are distroying the head of the Blaser firing pin . The firing head looks like a star after shooting RIO shells.

I bought one of the first Blasers. I have shot over 30k rounds through it, all reloads with every hull known to man and have had no problems with this. I did however, break the four screws that hold the upper tube of the unsingle at last weeks state shoot. Phillip of Phillip's gunsmithing fixed it so it would work and I went on about my business. I phoned Blaser today and they blew me away. Rich said to send him the barrel and he would send me a new barrel. I said this was not necessary. My only concern was getting it back asap. I was assured it would come back the same day they received it. I never got this kind of service with Perazzi, Browning, or Beretta and I shot them all a bunch. I am a happy Blaser owner regardless of whether they replace my screws or my barrel.

Well - Pylinski fixed the problem at the PA State Shoot. Great guy, by the way.
The breech face that's screwed into the receiver was "half a hair" too thick. Pylinski made the adjustments and I'm running all brands and types of shells through the gun without a hitch - 1000 rounds so far.
Thanks for all the feedback. I love this gun!

My K gun shoots what ever you feed it. It doesn't matter if it is a premium load or a cheap load, it shoots them all. I agree it's a gun issue not a shell issue but then again maybe Blaser is in bed with the premium ammo people.
Good luck with your problem. I know Blaser will fix it the way it needs to be and I also know Blaser is a fine gun (but not the finest)LOL.

I'd like to buy a Super Sport if it shoots ok. I'm supposed to try one tomorrow. I got a good price on a new one last week. What do people who own them think of them. I know opinions are all over the place on some things.
