I installed a pitch spacer on an 1100 trap stock. After grinding and sanding smooth the finish is gray and looks very dull. Are there any suggestions on re-blackening the finish? Paint would probably chip off too easy. It should be something that adsorbs. I thought of liquid shoe polish but it probably wouldn’t go on very evenly. Thanks,

Dale

If it's the standard black composite pitch spacer the edge can be polished with the fine grit black oxide paper that is used in auto paint shops. The paper starts at about 1000 grit and goes up to 1500. Used wet with a block it will produce a very nice low gloss finish that can be buffed to a higher sheen with some red rouge and a loose cotton buffing wheel.
