What's the best place to buy wads, primers ect..? Powder when it becomes available. Best in terms of price and shipping to CA. I have been using Cheddites and claybuster 1 oz wads in my E3 receipt.

Hopefully I can find some E3 pretty soon.

Best place is the local clubs, ya won't pay shipping there. If you are not a member, consider it, or meet one, and go through him. You'll need a place to shoot anyway. They usually have some discounts and get dealer pricing through whatever source they use.

Shipping and Hazmat on powder and primers will add $50+ to any purchase you make. It is very rarely worth it to mail order supplies unless you have absolutely no local choices, are going to buy as much as possible on one hazmat charge, or are really desperate.

+1 on local clubs.

People run around to save a penny to load a box of shells and then scratch their heads when a gun club gets into finacal trouble. They will find blame on everything except their lack of support for the club.

I live on the Central Coast CA. I'm 1 hour 15 minutes from Atascadero (not a member) and 2 hours + plus from any of the clubs in the San Jose area. This is the reason why I reload. 1 hour from any Walmart in any direction. I rather take a beating than visit Dick's or Walmart in Salinas, CA ....It's always a crap shoot for cheap shells in Paso Robles, (South) and Salinas (North). Like everything in the town I live you have to order and and have shipped. Some people just can't believe I live so far from a Walmart. Maybe that's a good thing...I'd be there everyday.

Stupid question, but regarding the clubs; where will you shoot the shells you load? I would assume public land to shoot on out there is somewhat controlled, unless you own it. And throwing those bird sand littering with wads and lead would be a big no-no for many of the greenie weenies in Commifornia. I'd think you needed to be in a club in order to shoot without being shot.

Around here Minot ND we make a hour n a half drive down to Bismark ND to pick up loading components from Double H guns the Howard boys always have the best prices and r very helpful it's worth the drive as nobody locally sells quality reclaim shot and the sporting goods stores do not support trap or skeet much. None of the clubs around here do the bulk order thing.....

I live in FOIDistan an where local clubs are not so local. We are fortunate enough that Recobs makes monthly trips down from WI to local clubs to keep us stocked up. I have not mail ordered from them however they are great people to work with. I have also personally visited their store and you best leave your charge card in your wallet. First time visitors are normally offered a towel for the slobber and drool. If you make the trip there is also a local club you can shoot after buying components.

When the components are available Powder Valley is the best deal for California that I could find when I was buying components. Mind you you had to buy 6 kegs of powder to get 1 S&H charge and Hazmat. If you don't need that much get others involved so you can order the powder this way and split it up. Primers and wads are big and heavy but lets say you don't need 6 kegs of powder then you can figure 15 lbs per thousand primers against the maximum package weight from Powder Valley. I have a cabelas credit card and they had wads on sale with free shipping so my cabelas points scored me a big freebie. Your biggest problem in this bulk order is finding others to participate and finding powder is difficult at the present time. Buying in bulk is always the cheapest way to go. I would order 1 ton of shot and then use the reload calculator to figure how many wads , Primers and how much powder I would need. I did this before the prices went out of site and now I can say it was a very smart investment vs the situation most reloaders are in now

I buy from the Local Ike's Club when they have a once a year componet buy. I also buy from Recob's in WI. I will also tell you every where I travel now has lots of Handgun Ammo, this was not the case last year, what does this mean, a lot of the shotgun shell powder also goes into handgun ammo, & now that there catching up I'm sure the powder will follow and I'm going out on a limb but I belive by summer things will be a lot better for Powder avaiblablty. Good Shooting
