One of my clubs now allows non-lead ammo only, so I've decided to buy a suitable barrel for my Rem 1100 and choke tubes for steel shot. Would anyone care to recommend a particular make of choke tube and constriction for 16-yard targets? Many thanks.

Modified is good for 16 yd. No special barrel or chokes are needed. I would still pattern the gun though.

Claydotter,

My bad: I should have specified that my 1100 Trap is 1976-vintage with a fixed-full trap barrel that is not suitable for steel shot. I need to buy a barrel that can take steel and then the proper choke tube.

Yes, patterning would be indicated.

If you buy a new Remington 1100 barrel from the manufacturer, it will probably come with a modified choke tube installed. I did this a year or so ago. It can be used for steel.

Dear Porcupine

Remington 1100 barrels are rated for steel shot. If your 1976 barrel has a MOD choke, you are good to go. If it has that old school TIGHT choke, then you might want to get another barrel.

Corson has a 28" Trap barrel with a MOD choke.
