The Y guns we’re Demo guns

 

I bought a Y A391 from Cole's. Was told that the "Y" designated a demo - and the gun looked unfired. They said it was handled but fired very little if any.

 

The "Y" code on a Beretta serial number denotes that the particular firearm has been taken to to the various shows, SHOT show for one, and handled by perspective buyers and dealers. It may or may not have been fired. The firearm is then returned to Beretta for inspection prior to sale. Beretta will assign a level 1, 2 or 3 to the gun with 1 being the highest grade and will have everything a new gun would come with. Level 2 may have some cosmetic flaws (dents and / or scratches) and may be missing a choke tube or wrench or other item . Level 3 will have the same flaws as level 2 but will be missing some factory items. All three levels will carry a ninety day warranty from the date that it is sold. All three levels of guns are in working order and safe to shoot.

 

I had a Beretta 687 Y gun years ago and put about 40k rounds through it and then traded it on an upgrade. Gun looked new with a couple of press marks in the stock but tight as a drum. I believe they have a full warranty on them also. I would not hesitate to buy another.

 

I believe the question was what was the Y for.

 

I have ordered "Y" guns for several customers. They have has zero problems and guns were possibly unfired and just handled as display pieces.

 

I believed the question had already been answered as to what the "Y" means. My gun was actually stamped with a "Y".

 

You are correct that the question had already been answered. He didn’t ask about how many times you shot your gun or what you did with it.
