No Spolar here yet - thinking about taking the plunge. Would like to understand manual handle effort - current MEC Automate is very easy on the shoulder.

i reloaded on a spolar for about a year pulling the handle by hand never had any problems with steel based hulls

I used 20ga gunclubs previously and it started doing something weird where it would start making a loud snapping noise every 5-8 rounds. I’m not sure what the cause but even my wife said, “that doesn’t sound right”. Needless to say, I stopped using them.

Forgot to mention, I spoke to cole (grandson?) and he said this was the first he had heard of the noise. He did say it could be the spring loaded crimp stage snapping the round downwards into he carriage but I couldn’t identify it before giving up.

Like Mac says, get a SuperSizer. I have a PW and load Top Guns and before my super sizer the machine was jumping and spilling shot and popping. Super Sizer makes a huge difference!

Or just use brass base hulls. Having to use a super sizer kinda kills the point of using a progressive

2 Hydraulic Spolars. Never had a problem with any hull.

Loaded manually for two years before adding the hydraulic. There was never any issue or difficulty pulling the handle. That noise mentioned was probably the shell at the kick out station.

That is a very good point. Spolar manual says about every 500 rounds to put a few drops of oil on the bottom of the swab. I am new to the Spolar so not a lot of experience yet. If I would have to run shells through a Mec supersizer first I would be selling the Spolar as fast as I could and continue loading on the 9000's.

The new Spolar's come with the new resizing dies,so you won't have to use a Mec super sizer,to resize the shells,I have
the newer die set in 12ga and thye work just fine.

I have no doubt that the Spolar will size down well with the old or new dies but was curious about how much effort it takes on a manual machine.

I've loaded a ton of 12ga Gun Clubs with my Spolar, no issue at all.
Sorry I'm not close to Jersey.
Which hulls exactly are you considering?

I load Top Guns and Estates - one and done.

Zillions of them in buckets at club.
