I am still cleaning a bunch of guns for a friend. The one I worked on today was an old Remington Model 241 in 22 short. This gun was made between 1935 and 1949 and it's been shot quite a bit and put in a closet. While working on it today, I could not figure out how to get the bolt to stay in the rear position. Heck, I'm not even sure if there is a way to lock in to the rear, but if anyone here knows how to do it, tell me please. Just so y'all know, the access to the action of this rifle is from the bottom and holding the bolt/action back while trying to scrub is very hard on the old fingers. <:)
Thanks in advance.

I don't think it locks back. You can separate the barrel and action the push bolt back and then push the whole trigger group forward and the whole trigger group will come out in one piece letting you clean the action area.

I have several 241's and they are great shooters. Yes, you take the magazine out of the stock, push the little button and turn the barrel right off of the receiver - being sure to hold the bolt back when you turn. Then the whole trigger group comes out of it easy as pie. This one that is made to shoot shorts would be a shooting gallery gun and probably had many thousands of rounds put through it. Remember when you could actually go to a fair and shoot a real rifle?? Boy you are old! the beav

Thanks for the assistance guys. With all your advice I got the barrel and the trigger group off/out and got her clean as a whistle now. A nice little 22 rifle. This one's seen some wear but may be for sale shortly.
