Ammo fires; Northlake Mall store is evacuated

Charlotte Observer

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and Charlotte firefighters evacuated a store at Northlake Mall this afternoon after ammunition apparently was dropped on an escalator and one round reportedly went off.

The evacuation was completed about 2:25 p.m., fire Capt. Rob Brisley said. Police requested help from firefighters to evacuate the store, he said.

Several rounds became lodged in the escalator at Dick's Sporting Goods and one fired, witnesses said. No injuries have been reported.

A manager for Dick's wouldn't comment. The mall's management hasn't responded to messages left by The Observer.

Potential for harm is MUCH less than one of those Coleman propane cylinders they sell.

I have a SAAMI video where they incinerated all kinds of ammo, and in reality, ammo is far less dangerous in a fire than many household items like spray paint cans, gasoline, etc.

Bullets and pellets DO NOT go flying.

Primers do, but they cause little damage.
