They are not interchangeable, Red is denser than Red Dot. Red is a really good powder, though. I'm a big fan of it because it fits well in AAHS hulls. They are of similar burn rates.

I was having a really hard time locating some Alliant Red Dot powder lately, but did find some IMR Red. Are these similar powders? Interchangeable even perhaps? Thanks.....Rick

Have used both. Not see any difference in performance. Different bushing size for them.

As Nebs said, they are NOT interchangeable in that you will not use the same powder bushing or setting on an adjustable bar. Most likely they will call for the same amount of powder given the same components, I.e. 16 grains, etc. but Red (or Green) will be a smaller volume.

I’ve loaded a lot of IMR Red over the last several years. I like it a lot. Especially when they give you an extra pound when you buy an 8 lb jug at the Grand.

Correct, When I wrote to IMR several months ago, I was sad to hear when they confirmed that they have discontinued Red and Green. They both were/are excellent powders.

Not trying to repeat anything, but I do hope IMR changes their decision to stop making it. I had grown especially fond of Green as a sporting clays powder.

I have seen 1lb. bottles or 14oz what ever they come in at a couple of local gun shops.It seems to be new stock because they did not have them before so maybe they are still making it.
