What is the scoop on these? What do they compare to? There are some available in my area but I have never heard of them before.

They haven't been made since the 80s. They were made by Activ for reloading the activ hulls. I used a lot of them back then .they were a standard 209 primer. For shotshells. Who's selling them?

I saw some at an auction site. A couple different lots but several thousand primers. Are they worth $20/1000?

Without knowing where and how they were kept 3 1/2 decades, I darn sure wouldn't pay any more than that unless I was desperate.
Never even knew activ made primers.

Depending on hazmat costs, in this current environment, buy all you can at that price. They worked just fine then, they should be fine.

Activ used either Cheddite or CCI primers in both their loaded ammo and their primed cases. Activ primers they are not. Might be primers in new unfired Activ hulls, but bet on them being Cheddite. Even if they turn out to be CCIs they will not be as hot of primer as the Cheddites. I was told this by a guy who used to work for Activ that I bough several hundred primed hulls from a while back. He seemed very knowledgable about the situation and upon receiving the hulls from him and inspecting them and the primers in the several different kinds of hulls I recieved, I believe he was spot on! CCI and or Cheddite, most being Cheddite!
