Well I thought I was well informed and I don't miss much but, I gotta admit that one is a new one on me ! Maybe shades of Arnold Reigger who won a couple of major handicaps with # 9s But ,then HE was a lightning fast shooter!

Some sporties will shoot 9s, but it is fairly rare.

I bought 10 flats of Gold Medal paper HDCP a few years ago from Roger's sporting goods on a closeout,they were suppose to be 8's but to my surprise one flat was 9's so federal made them also. Jerry

I blew a few quail up with them.

I can believe that. I rarely hunt quail with anything larger than a .410 and if I'm hunting with some one shooting a 12 gauge, I keep my birds separate from theirs.

have a freiend that had several flats of rem. nitros 3-1/18-8.5. shooting 27 yds at pa. state. he asked me how were his breaks. ( he is a very good hdcp shooter). i didn't have the heart to tell him that they were not good breaks. no smoke balls. i have the top of one of the shell boxes somewhere.

I would not choose #9 Handicap loads for anything - well, unless they were really, really cheap.
I like #9 in 20 gauge for Sporting Clays.
For Skeet I prefer 1150 fps.
Those are great hulls for reloading.

I had several boxes of old #9 reloads I used at one time for skeet. Shot them for trap and they broke them just like the 8’s did. It was from the 16 yard line so I suppose it would probably be different from 27 but I like actually hitting targets so to heck with 27 yards anyway [emoji1787]

Got a buddy who uses #8's on rabbits. Way too much shot to be picked out.
