For my own edification, what does the update do? In a Kolar gun, the half moon piece of used to tighten the iron to receiver fit (at the knuckle). It looks like the original design has the same type of feature, albeit with a small block of steel instead of a semi circular one.

Some further research shows that the piece in the non-updated forend iron provides the same function, although the updated design is more durable (the original piece could be prone to breakage).

Kolar charges 225 for the update, 375 for an annual, or 450 for an annual and update together, seems like a nobrainer to me to have both done at the same time, and unless it's your only gun, to wait until your gun needs an annual, or the original shoe breaks before bothering to have it updated. Conversely the original piece would be a nothing part for a machinist or gunsmith to fabricate if necessary.
