REM says a 3" mag barrel won't fit on a 2-3/4 receiver. I was told they would, but only shoot the shell that matches the receiver shell lenght. ANY HELP

That is not true. There are lots of posts here about that very subject.

The chamber is to short for 3" so the shells will not eject, other than that mine worked fine with 3".

An 870 std receiver(2-3/4") will not eject a 3" shell. The bbl will interchange with no problems.

The ejector is rivoted to the inside of the receiver. There are two types of ejectors...one for 2-3/4" and one for 3".

The receivers are identical except for that.

You can remove the 2-3/4" ejector and replace it with the 3" one, and then you're good to go with either lengths.

Of course, you can only shoot 2-3/4" shells in the 2-3/4" bbl.

I watched a guy shoot a 3 1/2 inch shell in a 2 3/4 inch gun one night. It was a Brownint O/U. The hull bottlenecked down like a 30-30. The gun didnt have a high speed comeapart....somehow it held!
