Absolutely 🤪
From the 24 and closer it don’t matter diddly squat whether 7.5 or 8’s.
From the 25-27 it’s what your mind believes but good quality hard 8’s (Heper-STS-Super Handicap-etc) will have sufficient energy to acquire the target if you allow your mind to believe.
Good advice. That being said, I inadvertently shoot a 25 with #9 shot once by mistakenly thinking the box contained #8's.

#9 even a true lol ounce of 9 skeet load heck an Olympic 24gram #9 will desiveivly break 16yd birds given adequate choke constriction at reasonable shot distance but can also draw alot of dust in extreme cold weather conditions if a fringe hit is made

7.5 mixture with 8s seems to help level off a 1 .125 shells for a good crimp. Vic Reinders use to say 8s in summer and 7.5 in winter. And I just shot 50 straight in league using 8s and temp was 84 degrees at 16 yard trap.
Maybe 8s are better on a hot day? Ya think?

Well, I shot my first 25 with 7.5s (I thought it was 8s, but the boxes were mixed in the carrier). So it must be better! Of course I was also not wearing my regular hat that day, so it could have been the hat brim making the difference.

Congratulations on your first 25 , I hope it was a straight 25 😁

I have posted on this topic in the past, some thoughtful, some humorous. But for me the reason is pragmatic. Besides ATA, I belong to and shoot at a number of clubs. Some of these have down range curtains to prevent shot from going into wetlands, or off of their property.

And in one case the club has limited shot size to eight or smaller pellet size. This is because the combination of distance, height of curtain, strength of curtain material and prevailing winds requires lighter shot. Some 7.5 loads will punch holes in the curtains, and they are expensive to buy and even more expensive to install.

So given the need to buy various speeds for various uses, and using several thousand rounds a year, i just buy eights to keep the inventory permutations down.

Yes, it has been brought up many times but there are always people new to Trap so let’s not disparage but provide guidance. For me, because there are more (and smaller size) pellets - #8 than with 7.5 I tend to use 8’s on a quiet wind day and 7.5’s when the wind is picking up. I use either 1oz or 1 1/8. Hope yhat helps.

I am a new shooter this past summer and asked this question to the top shooter in our league. He said no difference from the 16. So, for my next match I used 8’s on the first 25 and 7 1/2’s on the next 25. My score was 22 and 22. I guess he was right!
