How does the old Savage 250/3000 stack up against the 243?? I don't have any charts to check one to the other. Just wondering if Savage was way ahead of the curve with the 250/3000. Probably would have been better with todays bullet technolegy. What do you rifle guys think?? You can tell cabin fever is here.

I've owned a Rem 700 Classic in .250 for years; it's my primary p-dog and coyote gun. Sierra 75 gr HP's can hit 3300 fps and buck wind better than .224 for those long range rodent shots. The 90 gr HPBT Sierras will drop a coyote like it's been hit by a truck!

The Ackley improved version gives the .250 just about the same performance of the .257 Roberts, but in a package that wil work in short actions.

The .243 was hyped greatly by Winchester and various gun writers, but when the smoke cleared out and real measurements were taken, the .250 proves to be equal to and, in heavier bullet weights, actually superior to the .243.

It depends if you reload or not. If you reload then the .250/3000 is the way to go. If you don't, then buy a .243 and all is good. I have guns chambered in both,Savage 99 and Savage 14, but my .243 sees a lot more shooting time.
