I bought a 22-250 a couple years ago. Haven鈥檛 reloaded this caliber before, decided this will be my next project. I have a pile of 55gn Hornady V-max bullets so plan on using them. Anyone have a recommendation for powder? I have the manuals just interested to hear what others prefer! 馃

I think all I ever used was IMR 3031 but it's been so long that I don't remember why I picked it. Works just fine.

I used 4064 when I reloaded for mine last.

Without finding my reloading notes. I think I had the best results with H380. Other powders preformed very well and wouldn't hesitate to use the other recommendations. I use the OCW system to find a node and then work with the seating depth.
Unfortunately I haven't shot mine in a while. The non toxic bullets required in CA are to long to stabilize with the 1:14 twist.

Many years ago when I was doing alot of groundhog hunting, I had a Winchester 70 stainless bull barrel with a bi-pod. I tested several different powders, Imr 3031, Imr 4320 and Varget. H380 gave me the best results.
39gr. H380 with 55gr. Nosler ballistic (orange) tip.

I have been using IMR-4064 in my 22-250 loads for over 30 years. I don't think you can go wrong with Varget, H380 or IMR-4064.

ahanson, give the Hornady 35 gr NTX Lead Free bullets a try in your 22-250. I have seen about 20 coyotes shot with the 35 gr NTX Lead Free bullets and I was really surprised how good they worked on coyotes.

California hunters that are thinking about buying a rifle should look at the 243 Win rifles if they want 22-250 lead bullet performance. You can reload 243/6mm Nosler BT Lead Free Varmint 55 gr bullets or the Barnes 243/6mm 62 gr Varmint Grenade Lead Free bullets at 22-250 speeds. Having to shoot Lead Free bullets through 1-12" and 1-14" twist 22 cal rifles really sucks.

I had a Hart 1-8" twist barrel put on my 22-250 so I could shoot 50 to 62 gr Lead Free bullets. If you don't mind shooting 35 gr and 36 gr lead free bullets a 223 Rem maybe all you need because they can shoot the 35 gr and 36 gr Lead Free bullets at 4,000 fps.

6.5 stabal will get you up in velocity. And is less temp sensitive than most. Vmax like to be jumped to the lands. Work up to velocity, look for the node just above 3800fps. Watch for signs of pressure.

H380 or 4350 52gr boat tail hollow points anything over 3600fps hard on barrels and not accurate just my experience with a Rem 700 BDL & 24 power Leupold target scope

Varget has proven itself in mine with 53 and 60 gr. pills. Sierra MK BTHP gave me the best accuracy over Hornady.

For the 53 gr I use 34.4 gr, of Varget, CCI BRP, Hornady brass. Seated 20 off the lands in a 1 -12 twist barrel . Shoots in the 3s.

Over 3700, the Sierra Blitz will leave a vapor trail all the way to the target and big red ball.
I had really great groups with H-414, Varget wasn't out yet, but I would try it if I was still loading for the 22-250. I had my Rem 40-x 220 Swift up for sale at Jaquas but I took it down. That guy would really reach out and whack those prairie dogs.

I shot the 22/250 for years with 55 gr or even 60gr used IMR 3031 33 grains gun would shoot 1/2 inch groups all day. This load was the load the Remington custom shop guns shot best. Have used H380 4064 also
