So, what do you think is going to happen when employers who are still keeping 40-hour-per-week staffs hit the 2014 Obamacide Wall?

Obamacide is the RED HERRING. The economy will kill us. We'll wish we were in a recession next November. 'Fize you, I'd stock up on tin cups and #2 pencils.

The GOP just sold The Conservative Movement and The Tea Party down the river.

Well it's not QUITE that simple.

The threshold is FIFTY 40 hour a week jobs OR THEIR EQUIVALENT.

That means a HUNDRED 20 hour a week jobs meet the criteria.

Or TWENTY-FIVE 40 hour a week jobs and FIFTY 20 hour a week jobs.

So even if large companies cut hours, all they have to do is meet the total number of hours threshold, which is 50 x 40 = 2000 hours a week. Keep the total number of staff hours under 2000 per week and no Obamacide requirement.

There will be some smaller businesses on the threshold who will slash jobs. Any company that can lay off one or two employees up to maybe ten or so might just do that to stay under the threshold. Their bean counters no doubt are crunching the numbers to see if being open fewer hours or doing less work or selling less will offset the increase in costs caused by Obamacide.

Insurance is not the engine of an economy. Buying power is. Every time fewer people get paychecks, a smaller amount of money is available for circulation in our economy. If you are not working, you will not have as much discretionary cash as you would if you were working. Without money, our economy will become depressed. It is that simple.

Brian,

Please check your math. 50 x 40 = 2000 hours.

It seems that government financial "experts" seem to want to ignore the wisdom of Henry Ford. Granted the guy was a vehement anti-union and anti-Semite but he did have at least one thought that seemed to carry the U.S. economy along for a great number of years. When someone asked him why he was paying almost the equivalent of a full weeks wages at other auto plants and he could save money if he cut wages, he told the questioner that his employees would have more money to buy his cars and other products.

Here are a few other Henry Ford quotes:

"There is one rule for the industrialist and that is: Make the best quality of goods possible at the lowest cost possible, paying the highest wages possible."

"It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning."

and from 1934 as the Depression just began to ebb "Henry Ford in a statement said: 'No one loses anything by raising wages as soon as he is able. It has always paid us. Low wages are the most costly any employer can pay. It is like using low-grade material--the waste makes it very expensive in the end. There is no economy in cheap labor or cheap material. The hardest thing I ever had to do was to reduce wages. I think we were the last big company to come to it. Now I am mighty glad that wages are climbing again."

And finally, it is almost as he could see 2013, ""Public officials are all right if they stay in their proper sphere and perform their proper functions but when they get greedy for wider scope and more power and money they lose their value and become parasites."

Lots of 20 hour per week workers here, Obo supplements the other 20 hours!!

Son's employer got "sucked" up into the program!

Because he worked 20 hours, he didn't make the "unemployment" stats!!

Liberals fuzzie math at work again!!

What ever the unemployment rate is, double it and you'll get close to what it REALLY is.

pyrdek, thanks for catching that, fixed it.

And don't forget that volunteers now add into that figure.

WS-1, also increased taxes and increased costs for health care reduce discretionary income, and that cuts into the economy as well.

This is all part of the socialist/liberal plan. They've increasingly harped for four decades how Americans consume too many resources and raw materials, much more than the third world, and their solution is to reduce us to third world status. The socialists and communists have advocated destruction of the middle class for over a century now, and the liberals are greasing the skids towards that goal. Make no mistake, there IS a revolution going on, it's just been progressing incrementally over a long time period, so few notice it. Like slowly turning up the heat on a frog in a pot of water.
