Several years ago, at the PA State shoot, I was denied cashiering for a doubles event, because I was 2-3 minutes past the shutoff time of 1:00. I was shooting a handicap event, & I knew I should have time to get to the clubhouse. Well, our trap on bank 7 broke, & it took them 20-25 minutes to get it running again. We finished our last 25 & I ran up to the cashier
counter, hoping they would understand. I was told "1:00 is 1:00". I was pretty cranky about it, but, rules are rules.
Two days later, I was waiting to shoot doubles again at about 3:30.
(cutoff time was again 1:00)when the PA announcement was made. " Attention shooters, the shutoff time for doubles has been extended to 4:00" It turns out a "big dog" had just arrived, so "shoot management" made a executive decision, to let "her" shoot.
I raised hell with everyone that would listen, but to no avail. So it is not only the small clubs that play games.

Bisi, I could drive you there. I know how to get there. But if you ask me the names of the roads I couldn't tell you. I'm one of those landmark kind of drivers.

Do you think you would vote for me if I were a politician? :)

In 1989 My Son Graduated from NAVY Boot Camp in San Diego.
My wife & I flew out too see him Graduate.
I took along our Gun in order too shoot that weekend at the NAS MIRAMAR Trap club.
On that weekend the top money prize was $1500.00
I ran a 99 in the singles, ending in a 3 way tie for first & the money.
The last squad finished around 3:00 pm.
All of a sudden the Shoot Off was delayed until the next day a Sunday.....
When I inquired as to why the shoot off was put off...All I got was, One of the shooters had to leave.
As you may expect we had to be on a plane home at 9:00 AM Sunday morning.
After a bit of "Haggling" I was awarded the trophy, I left the money for the "HOME BOY".
I vowed never to shoot at Miramar....And I have not.
I find it interesting Miramar has fallen on hard times these days.....That's to Bad!!!

Buster, I was trap director for a number of years at Miramar, and we had people from all over country as well as the world shoot there. I saw people from everywhere win money at that club. At the time there were over 500 members, and I didn't know 15% of them. Good old boys at Miramar? I don't think so..... The only time I ever had to hold a shoot off over until the next day was because of daylight. We were not allowed to use lights because of flight operations at the time. You just sound like a Sourpuss.....

Don'tg know if its dirty or not, but at several clubs I frequent-it appears the speed of targets seems to change in caps after someone is straight after first leg of a big middle 50 pay out. The birds seem to be different, do other shooters see this optical dillusion?

If any of the clubs in NW Ohio pulled some of this stuff, they would have to close the doors because no one would show up for shoots. Trapshooters in our area all know each other. The word would get out pretty quick.

We even hang around with guys from Michigan and Indiana. We're not picky about chosing friends as long as they're trapshooters.

Jim- I have seen that big farmer from MO do what you described many times. You might be on to something. Excessive talent might be considered illegal.

Purple stocks ought to be outlawed. They distract other shooters.

I know a excellent club whose manager screwed up a lewis class shoot, causing winners to be losers in the money payouts. This happened over 5 years ago and the shooters havn't forgotten it yet and attendance is affected greatly on their monthly lewis class.

JoeG, Sometimes the Navy would call and close the range, for a few hours. We were never told why. They could do that anytime they wanted. It was part of the lease agreement. That may have been what occurred. Who knows? But, nobody cheated the man, at least during my 25 years of shooting there.

Don- I do hope to see you at Middletown next week. If I have any free time, I will try to teach you some basic colors. The "purple gun" you frequently refer to is actually my very distinctive grained select premier Redwood stock. The purple you see is under my eyes when after beat me by two targets.

I would like to know where not to go. I would like to know which clubs are user friendly. By keeping it a secret you are assisting them in screwing trap shooters. HMB

Twin Birds:

Oh, but they DO want outsiders to come and play with them. They like our money. Clubs like that just don't want us to WIN, that's all. As long as we pay our money, shoot, and leave...

But this is only one club out of the all of the clubs that I've shot (probably close to 100 now). The only other complaint that I have is the preferred banks choice that they pretend not to give to select shooters at Elysburg, but I still like shooting there anyway (they are professional about everything else). If tactics were a significant part of this game, we would have seen a LOT more posts on here, and we haven't.

It's really rare. For the most part, the clubs in this sport do a fine job for the shooters.
