No more Winchester 209s Chedites from now on

I held back 5000 Winchester 209 primers thinking I would buy Chedites
Until the Winchester
209s were again available, used 10k
Chedites and decided to use the 5000 Wincesters. Sadly
They have been in my climate control
Building. The face of the primers have oxidized and they have trouble sliding in the primer trays
Chedites have a slick
Varnish finish on the face and slide without problems.

Fire ok, just tray sliding problem

I was a Winchester fan for a very long time until I ran out. I bought 5000 Creddites and they would slide down the primer tray on my Mec very nice unlike the Winchester that I would the to tap to get them to slide.

Cheddites is all I have bought and never had a misfire with them.

Marbax hit the nail on the head and drove it all the way in on the first hit. Most of us had no intention of even trying Cheddites until they were the only primer available. When we tried them, we found we liked them. Many of us are appreciative of Cheddite leaping into the primer vacuum and filling the void left by the absence of the US primers. Now that some US primers are starting to trickle back into the market, many find no appetite for paying higher prices than necessary. Thank you, Cheddite, for being there when we needed you.

I thought it was only me who noticed this. Its not bad though. I would just have to keep the primer tray full in my MEC and remember to tap it if the primer didn't drop. On my PW its much more noticeable in my opinion, the w209 primers really need a few taps sometimes where the cheddites slide easier.

I have plenty of 209's and plenty of cheddites... I seem to reach for the cheddites each time.

Odfdly, after being inundated with an overflow of Cheddites a few years back, we've swung to the opposite here and have ZERO shotshell 209's of any flavor available locally. One of the benefits of being a, ahem, "judicious pre-stage supply self-warehousing agent".

Had this problem with a batch of Nobel Sport primers that I got a great deal on. I pulled the tray out and gave them a few passes with a large flat file to knock the crud off. It helped, but they were still a royal pain to reload. I did finally use them up with zero failure to fire, but I'm glad they're gone. Maybe that's why they were such a great deal.
I'm back to Cheddites now. I have loaded literally tens of thousands of Cheddites and shot them in many different guns with zero issues.
