I am looking for any suggestions for books or video's on shooting doubles, I do not get any better (F grade) since I started shooting trap several years ago, for instance at this weeks league shoot I was 24-24 singles, 24 HCap but 22 in doubles. I can get the first bird but the second seems to elude me most of the time and when I really concentrate on just the second bird I usually lose the pair, I am conscious of not lifting my head for a peekaboo and have tried different leads and body/feet positions with no success, any thoughts would be appreciated.

What Dos XX said. Set up to break the second target. Then twist to set up to shoot first target. You know exactly where it's coming out. Hold point is just below top of house for first target. Look point is over top of barrel looking for a clear target. Move gun up to break target. After you pull the trigger move your EYES to lock on the second target and moving with hips or ankles your gun locked into shoulder and face on stock. You'll be moving to the second target. When you have the correct site picture and lead pull the trigger while continuing your swing. The faster you can shoot the first target the more time you have for the second. Doubles is fun unless you let it get the best of you. It takes allot of practice. The more you shoot them with good foot placement and focus you'll get better. It also doesn't hurt to ask good doubles shoots at your Club for help. There are lots of videos out there from great doubles shooters like Phil Kiner, Harlan Campbell and Ricky Marshal . It would be great if you could take a shooting clinic. Nora Ross is great as is Ricky Marshal and others. Takes more time to explain than just doing it. Good luck and shoot straight.
Doubles is a timing issue

Get a good gun with responsive triggers. Monkey with the fit till it feels like an old familiar pair of boots or your dance partner of many years. Once you dump the clunky, dumpy truck bumper you can work on blasting the first target then shooting the second!

Doubles are just plain fun!! Just go and shoot them and don’t worry about it!! Usually the more you shoot the better you will be. Just keep your head down and focus on the targets.

My wife is a two time GAH Doubles champ. She puts her gun where she intends to break the first bird and when she sees it just under the barrel she shoots. It is not spot shooting but trapping it. This enables her to get to the second bird quickly with minimal gun movement so that it is closer in. I've heard it said that you cannot shoot the first bird quickly enough.

Cannot emphasize enough how important it is to go pattern both barrels. Hard to break both targets if the barrels aren’t shooting where you’re looking.

Aside from that, eyes on the target. Shoot the first bird quickly. Head down through second shot.

Practice, over the last couple years do you shoot equal number of rounds between the three games?
First bird needs to be a bit reckless, if you know you are hitting it well you are spending too much time looking at it. No need to admire the break.

Thanks for your suggestions, I shoot a DT10 trap with fixed IM and Full non selective trigger, I have patterned the bottom barrel and it shoots where I look (flat) but I never bothered with the top as I assumed it would be the same. It would likely be smart of me to check that first.

Had a lesson from Sean Hawley at Kingsburg Gun Club several years ago, he told me, you can not shoot the first target fast enough.

My suggestion to you is find a really good doubles shooter and ask for help and watch him shoot.

Some people use 7/8 s loads for 1st shot
Or use 1145 for both
