Ok, I hate to admit it but my feet are falling apart due to arthritis..
I have always been a boot and leather guy but I need to decide towards a comfortable pair of trainers.
Any recommendations for a great pair of shoes to use primarily for trapshooting?
I understand that stance and proper footing is the basics for trap shooting, so I feel it's relevant to the topic of clay target shooting

I'm a fan of Merrell MOAB 2's. Since the MOAB 3's came out (no major difference), the 2's can be found for around $60 and have options of being waterproof or ventilated. They are very comfortable for all day wear, have good stability, and excellent traction. They are sort of a hybrid between a sneaker and a boot.

"Reviews note that they breathe well, are very comfortable, and have great on-trail comfort. They also have well-cushioned, watertight construction, great grip and traction, and plenty of heel and arch support".

Go to a shoe store and get your feet measured for length and width. Then try on what they have. Walk around the store. You should not have to "break in" the shoes. They should be comfortable from the get go. If the store does not have what you want, you now have your measurements to order the pair you want.

I have a pair of new balance shoes that I wear on the sporting clays course, but I really like the Sketchers slip on shoes,of which I have more that one pairs for and for trap,i think you would be ok,but I would go to a Sketchers store to try on first?

I too like the New Balance shoes. Mostly because I have wide feet. Like others above have mentioned. Do not go cheap on the shoe, you get what you pay for. I like lots of padding on the bottom as well. Nice and comfy all day long. Good Luck to Ya. break em all Jeff

This may be a generational thing, but I cannot highly-enough recommend On Cloud. They’re absolutely stupidly comfortable! I’m on my feet for roughly 12 hours per day without even the slightest bit of discomfort, thanks to On Cloud—and believe me, this has not always been the case.

Oh, and have I mentioned that they’re ultra lightweight? Yeah? It feels like wearing socks with incredible padding.

Different manufacturers use different "lasts", or foot shapes. You should try a wide variety of brands until you find the one that just feels right from the get-go. In my case, ASICS shoes fit my feet better than any other brand.

You might also want to add orthotic insoles, such as those made by Aetrex. The thin foam insole in most athletic shoes is useless. They are easily replaced with good orthotics.

I will cast an additional vote for the Merrell Moabs. Good quality, very comfortable, good support.
