Lefty here. First of all no gun will fire if the shell isn't "fully seated in the bore" If the gun is out of battery it is a built in safety feature that it won't fire.
I never had glasses get ruined by powder, and I never see shells ejecting. I probably have about 300,000 rounds fired out of semi autos in the last 40 plus years without any catastrophic results. The only catastrophe was when a friend let me try his lefty 1100. I couldn't load or use that thing comfortably to save my life.

My son is ambidextrous. Eats, shoots, writes either hand. He prefers left, but can do either. He shoots n carries pistol left handed, shotgun n rifle mainly left handed, but shoots either way. Can shoot my right handed vertical bow left handed. Saw that a few times and does quite well.
He has always had right handed guns. I bought him a left 1100 Trap for birthday. He was shooting his SX2 prior. He shot a few rounds, put it away and has never shot it again in 15yrs!!

wow that’s crazy haha. As humans we can adapt and obviously he’s an example of that. Sure if he started out with left handed guns he may prefer them be he has a feel for right handed now and has adapted that to be comfortable. Pretty cool!

ejection didn't matter too much . Being right handed I just turn gun 90 * left and load with right hand .
Shell pouch is on right hip .
I think it's easier for me to use loading ports and controls than a right handed shooter .
Gun is on my left side holding it with left hand , right hand is free to do loading etc.
Loaded just bring up to left shoulder ...

I guess like anything you get used to it with enough reps
O/U's are the same , I'm used to pushing lever to the right - couldn't deal with a lever going to left - some of Browning left hand sporting guns have a "left hand" lever - no bueno ...

Does it bother you what so ever? I am a recent left handed convert and wasn’t really concerned with a right handed ejection until someone had mentioned a shell going off without being fully seated in the bore. That would be right in my face :(. Albeit it’s super rare for anything like that to happen but is it worth the chance lol
Been shooting left handed for my entire life...RH semi's are easier for a LH shooter to use than a LH semi...shells ejection is not an issue. Wear shooting glasses regardless...everybody needs them. O/U work better for me in LH...

Be your own judge but my vote is shoot the RH auto as a lefty and do not give it another thought...

Atta boy coach! Preach it! I’m with you. I got 60 plus years shooting. Never a mishap.

You guys that are commenting run out and buy a left handed gun are probably right handed. If so, you have no clue what it’s like to live in a right handed world. I’m quite a gun trader, shooter, and hunter. In all my years, I rarely saw left handed guns. They don’t grow on trees. I had to learn to shoot right handed guns of all shapes and sizes. Never an issue. As far as a blowup? Never seen one in person. If you are worried about getting hurt, don’t shoot a gun, don’t drive a car or get on an airplane. Odds are pretty low that gun is gonna hurt you. Guess I shouldn’t be ranting but I detest advice from people unless they have been there. If any of you are left handed or have personal experience then I apologize. Otherwise my comments stand.
Since the only left-handed guns in question are those that eject to the left (O/U and bottom eject guns irrelevant to this conversation), there's always been used 1100's for sale, and they are reasonably priced compared to O/U shotguns. Fab Arms, Beretta, and Benelli also make left handed semi-auto's and they are available used as well.

I am right-handed, but left-eye dominant, so I shoot left handed. I've always been able to find an 1100 LH model every time I wanted to buy one.

You just need to invest a little time searching the Internet. You're not going to have much success if you're only looking at guns shows or looking for someone to trade.

Those methods of acquiring shotguns are rapidly disappearing and don't yield good results for the amount of time you invest.

Exactly! Most people complaining on this post probably have no issues shooting the left handed gun.

I would suspect most of the whining is because they are unwilling to learn how to load the gun differently.

I would suspect most are trying the ridiculous method of loading the left handed model the same way they load the right handed model.

I'll bet they didn't even move their pouch to the left side!

I figure a good percentage of people don’t want to buy sight unseen off the internet. I’ll buy new all day long off the net, but as far as used. I dont trust anybody. Another thing to consider is some of us do not live in heavily populated areas with ready access to a FFL holder. I agree that there are left handed guns available if you want to order, and by several manufacturers, but the fact remains for some they are NOT easy to acquire. And having used right handed guns all my life, I’ll bet that there are not that many that NEED one. If they want one sure, but the NEED is not always there.

Furthermore, you are very fortunate in that you have always been able to find them readily available. In rural America, they don’t grow on trees. I can almost count on one hand the times I seen lots of used left handed guns. My position is that because YOU have had good fortune, doesn’t mean that everyone does.

There’s no left handed guns near me. Fact of the matter is… lefty’s are the minority…. We want equal rights!

My dad who taught me how to shoot was left handed my brother as well. I got lucky and I'm right handed. I have a BT-99 that has a left handed recoil reducer in the stock . I shoot it but it beats me to death I get pounded in the face because I shoot it opposite. It's sentimental so I'll probably keep it. I know your pain because they lived it . Best of luck.

Lefty’s get used to shooting right handed guns which is why it’s easier to manipulate the right handed guns. I’m a convert…. Started right handed, could break 100 straight. Around 14, 15 years old I discovered I’m very much left eye dominant. Now I’m a lefty but will always have some serious right handed shooter muscle memory.

wear eye pro!

I shoot right handed and I'm left eye dominant. I've broke my share of 100s I should have started left handed way back when. I didn't know I was left eye dominant until I was in my forties. Tried shooting left handed for kicks haha broke a impressive round of 2 . Haha. Oh well it was fun.

I have two left hand sons yes it is not easy to find left hand shotguns. My shooting partner is left handed and she had to order one from Guns Unlimited in Nebraska. The only other one I have ever seen was a Benelli semi which we fought over and I lost. Don’t listen to the right hand guys that don’t know. They probably haven’t ridden a bull for 8 seconds either, it looks easy!
