There is hot salt bluing method which can be done in a same day but only if you have brass soldered shotgun barrels. Hot salt bluing will "eat through" classic tin/lead soldered shotgun barrels so if you have such type(the most shotguns on the market) you want to use "rust bluing method" which finishing can last up to couple of weeks. Plenty of folks will say that "rust bluing" is more resilient but they are about equal regarding resilience in my eyes. Hot salt bluing is shinier finish while rust bluing is lets say more matte and it is getting nice brown patina during decades of use. Of course you can have combination of hot salt blued receiver and rust blued barrels(y)

Both finishes are way nicer in my eyes than any cerakote type(baked colour). They are lovely traditional finishes. But!
Only con is that they require minimum maintenance after each shotgun use. They must be swiped with gun oil or any other gun spray after every use, and literary after every time you touch them with sweaty hands(even for one second) so if you are lazy type of a person take cerakote or even harder ilafone coating. Yes they look kinda nice but imho there is no place for them on traditional guns.

My personal choice would be one of 2 classic bluing methods or combination of both on a same specimen.
