Forgive me if I am beating a dead horse, but what are the overall opinions of Colonial choke tubes? The reason I ask is that I just had Mike Orlen thread my Y-Series Model 12 for the Tru-Choke small diameter thin wall choke tubes, and I was thinking about trying them. I currently have Trulock Chokes that are M(.710, .020 constriction), IM(.705, .025 constriction), F(.700, .030 constriction), and an XF(.690, .040 constriction) on the way. The Colonial Full is .697(.033 constriction) and the Extra Full is .692(.038 constriction). I actually like those constrictions better, but I do not know if that is enough to matter. I thought that the Colonial Full choke might be a better all around choke to shoot from anywhere and the Extra Full for games, but I am new to this game. I have read through some old posts, and it seems that some people have some horror stories from using the Colonial chokes. Tubes blowing out of barrels, and such. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hold on, break em all Jeff, should be giving you his opinion shortly.
I've never heard anything about them, one way or another. But now you got my attention. So I googled the company. I see they are made in Bama!!! So now I know some good ole boys made these chokes. I for one think that they must be much better, than any ole Yankee made choke!!! However their home page shows Turkey choke, after Turkey choke, after Turkey choke!!! I reckon their a small company that's directed more toward hunters??? So were back to, I've never heard nothing about them one way or another. RLMAO

So, is this sarcasm that I am hearing? Not to offend anyone, that is an honest question.

colonial is a small private company that probably bears some attention - i have done a small amount of business with them but do feel they are geared for hunters—
with that said- above you mentioned chokes you own - every one of those restrictions will break rocks — how can you tell 2/000s ? buying better handicap loads and getting correct POI will go further than changing choke mfg —- happy shooting

Thank you for the advice.

I am on my 2nd 10ga Ithaca Big Mag 10 with Colonial chokes. Stu Wright used to send off 10ga to get tubed by Colonial back in the day. I had mine done last year by them. They cut 8" off the barrel, tubed it, 2 chokes, 1 Steel/Non Tox shot and 1 Super Full Turkey. Less than $400. Work looks like it was made that way. Could not talk better about them 4 weeks turn around.

I called Colonial today to confirm that their thin wall chokes were the same as the Tru-Choke Small Diameter thin wall since apparently they have the same thread pattern. She had no clue what I was talking about, so it is still a mystery to mean if they are the same thread pattern and will interchange.

Yes it was, it was directed more toward the poster who made the comment about my posting though.

Its true, that I have southern roots and feel that anything made in Bama must be PDG. I also meant what I said about the company being directed mostly to hunters. While that is not a bad thing, most target shooters prefer to buy from companies that are geared more for the higher volume target shooters. Than to buy from companies that are more geared toward hunting.

I think acss hit the nail on the head Pretty Well, IMO. I too say, your overthinking the importance of just a few thousandth's of a inch in your chokes. Stick with what you already ordered. Give the chokes a few thousand rounds, then you can tell us how you like them. Nothing wrong with your tru-lock chokes. Enjoy your new chokes, and don't forget to break em all Jeff

I will try the Trulock chokes for a while. Is there any other manufacturers producing choke tubes in the Tru-Choke Small Diameter Thin Wall that you would recommend? Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.
You could check with Briley??? I really don't think its going to come to that though. I'm sure you'll be happy with your tru-lock chokes. If your not happy with your patterns??? Its best to use a Harder grade of shot!!! Before you try changing out expensive chokes first. Just remember that 3-5 shots on a piece of paper tells you almost nothing. If you see a few holes in the pattern, its perfectly normal. You need to test your patterns like Tim99 does to really know how your barrel is patterning. You have to count all your pellets in each of your reloaded 10 test shells. Then count how many pellets hit each 4 ft. x 4 ft. paper in the 30 inch radius. On each of your 10 test patterns. To find out if your getting a 75% pattern!!! You need to conduct all the tests at 40 yards for trap as well. Which is way more work than you really need to do for the average Joe!!! Good Luck to Ya. break em all Jeff
