Jeff, I've never noticed it either. Could you give a concrete example of "multiple 100's shot in D class with 2-3 more hundreds in the shoot offs for that class (16 yard)?" I have all the Trap & Fields for a long time. All I need is the date and place. Thank you.

I am a class A singles shooter who breaks a couple hundred straights per year. If I happen to do this at a major shoot, I get to shoot against the trapshooting greats. If the targets are made so difficult that average Joe shooter like me can never break a hundred, we would never get to go toe to toe in a shoot-off with the
legends of our sport.

I like what okiefarmer said.

Give me my infrequent day in the sun... that's all I ask....

Why make it improbable for most of us....

Oh well, I like Steve's idea. Of course, I also like the idea of going back to 3-hole targets all around and forget these sissy 2-holers. Buncha pansies got into the game a few years ago, I guess...

You can turn the bottle over time and time again, the Cream will always rise to the top no matter where you put the top ... Reality is a wonderfull thing, accept it for what it is and you will save a lot of money and frustration ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

They do make the targets more difficult for some. The other 4 shooters on my squad always get big orange birds and I get small black birds traveling way too fast and too far. I am convinced that PAT Traps can recognize my call and they want revenge for something I must have done.

I don't think anyone "wanted" that, Hap. It did happen for a while, but that was due to insufficient attention to detail on the part of the drafters of the wording of the rule (though they had it in a draft suggestion before them.)

It is now as it always had been before, and as it must be, in the view of the ATA at this time.

WPT You say the cream will always rise to the top no matter where you put the top. No one can debate that point. Thats proof that a 3 hole 28-30yd. Handicap target is badly needed to slow the rise. The 27 yd has been made SHAMBLES of for years. EXAMPLES: ATA TOP 10 YEARLY HANDICAP AVERAGES
>.9827 Dale Amos (27) 2,200 1992
.9760 Dale Amos (27) 1,500 1993
.9753 Dale Amos (27) 1900 2000
.9710 Bart Kirkham (27) 3,900 2003
.9707 Leo Harrison 111 (27) 5,900 2009
.9706 Dale Amos (27) 1,600 2001
.9695 William Sayles (27) 2,200 2007
.9675 Scott Gens (27) 2,950 2003
.9670 William Sayles (27 3,150 2008
.9669 Bart Kirkham (27) 2,900 2001 AVERAGE FOR THE 10 = .9717
THESE ARE NOT 16 YD AVERAGES. DO YOU GET A FEELING A LITTLE CHANGE IS JUSTIFIED??

Just looking at the top 10 handicap averages suggests that the targets are too easy. But, just looking at the bottom 10 handicap averages would indicate
the targets are too difficult. Looking at all handicap averages could result in something meaningful.

Bob- the return key is only on typewriters, computer keyboards have an enter key. I think you used the return key to return to the past for a brief moment.

Pat ... waaall, back in the days when ships were wood, men were iron and people shot double barrel guns that aligned in the same plane as their eyes (note: no cosine error ...) ...

I would have to say from the responses I have received at area gun clubs pertaining to this question is different than what I would have guessed it to have been. I have been randomly asking this question and this is what the results have been. Most shooters 20 to 24 yards are in favor of just making the handicap event harder than it is today. Leave the 16 yard game alone, as well as doubles. But in the handicap event Some have said that some 27 yard shooters average in handicap is higher than the 20 to 24 yarders have ever averaged in 16 yard. No matter what sport you partake in, there will always be exceptional participants. Most long yardage shooters I have spoke to, suggest we leave the game as it is. Could it be, and this is just a question, are long yardage shooters saying this because they have gotten use to winning big handicap events?? I really don't think so. One 20 yarder including myself said he could remember when a 92 to 95 would win handicap events. There are a handful of shooters that for the most part are making a living shooting. If they can do that, I tip my hat to them. But, take a look at "1oldtimer's thread response showing averages. Do you really think that those averages from 27 yard shooters are goof for the game? This thread is not meant to punish good long yardage shooters, but I really don't think the present handicap system really challenges some of these shooters. Remember why the 25 yard line was changed to 27 yards. In my opinion the handicap game is outdated, don't think it was ever meant for shooters shooting scores as they are now doing. What do you guys think???

PAT The handicap targets will always be too difficult for the short yardage shooters no matter what, no change will help or hurt them significantly. Thats why most of them stay there. My question is, with the shambles the elite shooters have made of our ATA handicap system is a change of any kind justified? I know what my feelings would be if I were an elite. Don't penalize me just because I'm better than most. Don't mess with my Hancicap system, thats the standard answer? I'm sure no change will come soon?
Goatskin- When I typed it up, everything was separated?

senior smoke, In the game since since 1957, can't remember a 92 winning a big shoot, possible? A 91 & 92 won the GAH way back. I see you read the part on the averages. Could make a little sense. You post some very viable thought provoking questions yourself. Good work!

Clyde, an additional [return] or [enter] (thanks, Pat) is needed to give a [line feed], so if you're going to make a list, you have to [enter] [enter] at your end-of-line.
