I understand use of wax on an oil finish stock. Are you also using it on polyurethane finishes? If so, why?
In the checkering I apply it with tooth brush on my field guns. I have also had the stock swell and split where the recoil pad meet the stock and when I have recoil pad off I apply it there as well. Duck hunting I always wrap electric tape where the recoil pad and stock touch because duck hunting the gun just gets Wet. I should do my Trap guns but I have not As I think my days shooting in the rain are over I hope.

I acquired a small bottle of Renaissance Wax and I did use it on my barrel as well. Personally, I think it is more effective on my oil rubbed stock than the metal. I did notice that there is no real buffing required on the metal. Just apply a light sheen on the receiver, barrel and rib and call it a day.

I was watching Midway USA tonight and Larry was waxing guns. I’ve never seen that before. Wood and metal. I bought some high grade gun wax when I refinished a stock, but didn’t have the nerve to use it. Now to the question, I have both oil finish stocks and epoxy finish. Should I wax them or just leave them be? I normally just wipe down the wood and oil the metal. Thoughts?
I always waxed my duty gun while serving on the police force. I did this since the gun was exposed to all types of weather. Wax won't stain the uniform or clothing like gun oil. I used kiwi paste wax for years and my duty guns still look new. I've also used the same wax on all my trap guns with no issues at all and all are beautiful. Apply, let dry for a bit, then wipe off, it's that easy.
