The issue began as FTF occasionally. Couldnt nail anything down so he sent the gun back to Mossberg, Im sure they cleaned it and found nothing. Issue got worse and he sent the gun in and just got it back. He found the issue, the breech block was cracked, nearly the full length, top to bottom, right across one firing pin and near the other one.
Of course, we immediately think, (reloads that were too hot) and figure that is the end of that. BUT he has never shot a reload, always buys Federal Gun/target Loads at Wallmart. He couldnt ever remember using a different colored shell, so he sticks by saying that is all he used in the gun.
Its a very odd situation, and another guy at the club shoots a Mossberg Silver Snipe II with no issues and he does reload...
Of course he took pics and sent to Mossberg, and was instructed to send the gun back, so its in their hands. Im curious to see if he gets any sympathy from Mossberg.
Anyway if any of you have a Silver Snipe, check the breech face.

You mean Silver Reserve. Except for tough, gritty triggers, that's the first I've heard anything bad about them. I shot a friend's, at that price point I'd choose a CZ, but not a bad gun. Hope Mossberg replaces it for him.

I still have mine. It sits in the back of my safe. Still looks new. Started shooting trap with it. No problems with it. Can't give it away, nobody wants it. I asked $200 for it but the only response was it wasn't shaped right for a boat anchor, maybe could be used for a fence post.

Sorry this happened to your friend but ,my advice is once it is fixed either sell it or, just keep it as a hunting gun. A lot of us who have bought cheap ( I guess I should say inexpensive) Over/Unders have learned the hard way. Cheaper O/U guns just won't stand up to the firing of thousands ( or even hundreds) of rounds on a clay target field. Wish that wasn't the case but, If somebody wants a dependable Over/Under to shoot at clay targets, they are going to have to shell out the money for one. Mossberg makes some serviceable hunting grade guns but Over/Unders , not so much !

I am sure there have to a few odd guns that are the odd balls that prove the normal.
The normal for the MOSSBERG Silver Reserve is having issues or totally broken.

I have yet to have had a chance to hold one of those odd balls, as everyone, of the many, I have held is the normal or broken.

One of the shotguns I and every smith I know rate as worse than this shotgun is the Stoeger Competition Condor.
But you will find many positive reviews on it. Even here where there is no one that has truly handled one, that has a single positive thing to say for it! Other than thank God I found a sucker!

"CHEAP" is more a quality term than a cost term. Mossberg O/U's are cheap ---

Holy Cow! Firing Pins break constantly. This is well known. I've always suspected the firing pin holes are drilled at the wrong angle putting stress on it it. One year at STATE, one gun broke a firing pin. Since that Silver Reserve had broken several earlier that season, the parents bought several pins to keep on hand. We replaced a pin on the tailgate. Same thing happen the following year.
I cringe when a new shooter shows up with a Silver Reserve because I know the parents are in for misery. Sad too, but because Mossberg had a really good opportunity to grab and hold on to a fair share of entry level market.

A friend of mine gave me a Moss SR. Shot it for a few months and gave it to another friend of mine. That's the end of my relationship with the Mossberg.

I’m surprised you are still friends! 😀
He has no idea what he has ran into. 😁😁😁

To him, pull trigger, goes bang, then it's a gun! 😁😁😁

Oh, and the friend who gave the thing to me, later found out he needed a little space in his safe. That was the reason why dump that thing on me and it was also his idea to dump it back to the other friend. What a friend he is, huh? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
