Since HODGDON doesn't have any published loads for TSS, has anyone else experimented with it? I know it's pricey, but I bought some to try...
Ballistic Products have a few under their load_of_the_week. They claim to be coming out with a manual specific to TSS but for now only have a sheet of referenced loads.

A guy named Hawglips would be your best contact for recipes. If you bought the shot from him he had a bunch of tested recipes he provided.

I have shot quite a bit in 28 ga and 12 ga. It really is amazing how hard it hits. As Pheasantmaster said above, the best sources of reloading info are BPI (Theirs is actually called SpheroTungsten 18) and Hawglips.

If you buy the TSS shot you can make reloads that make sense, instead having to shoot the loads that the manufacturers make.

TSS #7 shot is to big for shooting turkeys, TSS #9 shot will give you long range and way more pellets for killing turkeys, 1.50" of 20% gel penetration is recommended for killing ducks and 2.50" of gel penetration is recommended for killing big geese.

1200 fps TSS #9 shot gets 1.50" of gel penetration at 64.6 yards and has about 625 pellets in 1-3/4 oz of shot.
1200 fps TSS #7 shot gets 1.50" of gel penetration at 105.8 yards and has about 320 pellets in 1-3/4 oz of shot.
1200 fps TSS #7 shot gets 2.50" of gel penetration at 62.9 yards and has about 320 pellets in 1-3/4 oz of shot.
1200 fps TSS #9 shot gets 1.50" of gel penetration at 64.6 yards and has about 536 pellets in 1-1/2 oz of shot.
1200 fps TSS #9 shot gets 1.50" of gel penetration at 64.6 yards and has about 446 pellets in 1-1/4 oz of shot.
1200 fps lead #5 shot gets 1.50" of gel penetration at 51.2 yards and has about 282 pellets in 1-5/8 oz of shot.

Look at how the last two loads compare to each other. 1-1/4 oz of TSS #9 shot has about 164 more pellets than 1-5/8 oz of lead #5 shot and the TSS #9 shot has right at 13.4 yards more penetration range. The 1-1/4 oz TSS load will have way less recoil than the lead 1-5/8 oz load has.

1 oz of TSS #7 shot would make a great honker load.

With TSS shot a Mod choke maybe about as tight of a pattern as lead shot, through a tight Turkey choke.

So numero Uno. I don’t believe your data.
Tungsten is Not as dense as lead so it will not penetrate the same as or even better than something more dense!

I’ve loaded & shot Tungsten.

However at $50.00 per pound, it’s just not worth the effort!

First & foremost LEAD transfers energy & kills better than ANY other metal on our planet PERIOD!!!! If tungsten were better, we’d have been shooting it long ago and we’d have figured out how to get it on the cheap! There’s a reason we’ve shot Lead since the invention of Firearms. It simply kills better than anything else!

The rest is jibberjabber provided by Chinese Bots to sell Tungsten as an alternative. If I have to shoot non-tox, I’ll shoot whatever is cheap. I won’t be shooting shells that cost between $6.00 & $8.00 per shell. I work too hard for my $ to spend $50.00 per lb of shot😳😆😆🤣🤣. Simply my opinion, your results may vary.

Unless you have been living under the proverbial rock, you’ve likely heard some scuttlebutt about TSS shotgun shells. TSS — meaning “tungsten super shot” — has become all the rage in the shotgun world, mainly in turkey hunting circles. But a little testing proved it can do so much more.

Reports of this mysterious shot began to surface on the internet, and several websites sprang up where members of the TSS cadre would meet and talk over recipes for loads. Word of incredible patterns at ranges previously unheard of spread across the land. The word was out, and for shotguns, TSS was the new magic metal.

Tungsten super shot (TSS) is a tungsten-alloy material that has a density that is 22 percent higher than standard tungsten, and 56 percent more dense than lead. This equates to longer terminal velocities, the ability to use smaller shot sizes, and cleaner kills.May 20, 2020

Again, I’ve loaded & shot the stuff. I’ve read all the bs about it but I’m still not shooting shells that cost $8.00-$15.00 PER SHELL! Or reloading with shot that costs $50.00 + per Lb.!!! I don’t like paying $50.00 for 25 LBS of Lead.
I’ll leave you & your $ to buy TSS & shells. I don’t need it. I can reload, hunt & shoot for a lot less $.

Ummm, no. TSS is denser and penetrates better than lead. It is indeed very expensive.

I reload #9 TSS for turkeys, I have shot it, I also know what it can do.
Out perform lead at incredible distances, and kill turkeys stone dead every time.
I now shoot a 20ga and will never go back to 12ga as long as they make TSS shot.
I have 100% confidence at 50 yards on a turkey.
Hand loading brings my cost to just over $5, a turkey is certainly worth $5 to me.
Never shot any lead loads that could do this at 40 yards in a 10" circle.

I have to do all of my shotgun hunting with lead free shot. So my choice is to use steel or Bismuth shot that don't work as good as lead shot. Or use 12g/cc Tungsten shot, 15g/cc Tungsten shot or TSS shot that is 18g/cc shot that works way better than lead shot.

My 3" 1-1/2 oz TSS coyote loads cost me about $3.50 to $4.00 per shell to reload. My 2-3/4" 1 oz loads of 15g/cc Tungsten shot loads cost less than $2.00 per shell to reload and 15g/cc shot is 35% denser than lead shot is.

If you reloaded TSS and shot it and it cost you $8.00 to $15.00 per shell, I think you need to do the math again. If you didn't notice the TSS shot out performing the lead shot, somthing was wrong or you didn't hit what you were shooting at.

If it flies, you have no idea what you are doing if u think lead is heavier than tungsten. Derby's charts are spot on. Tungsten 9's have more killing power at 60 yards than copper plated 6's. Can your lead loads hold a pattern at 40 yards compared to tungsten?

Tungsten is 1.7 times more dense than lead.

I still use lead for all my shotgun sports. Hunting. Refused to use all that other bullcrap. I go for the kill not the wounding. Proving fact that most waterfowl die from wounds by nontoxic shot. Not lead poisoning.

I don’t need that much shot to take down a turkey! I shoot Lead BB’s a friend molds (& tumbles) from lead scrap & I hit ‘em at 50 yards no problem! I use steel BB’s or TT’s on geese (no, no lead on waterfowl!) I can call em in close enough to reach out & touch them (almost). (I know a guy who’s grabbed geese by the feet he’s so good at calling). I don’t wound many because I don’t shoot any I don’t know I’m going to knock down. They come down with a thump. I shot lots of doubles this year but no triple, yet. I know all too well about TSS. I’ve loaded it & shot it for years. (Previous comments were to draw people in - Fish(s) On!). If you only shoot a few shells a season, TSS is the way to go. Otherwise it’s just too expensive for my pocket!
I waterfowl 2-3 days/week & split time between different blinds - in fields/on fresh water ponds/salt marshes, a golf course, a river, different places in the rotation. Throw in some pigeon & crow shooting days too. Clays, Bunker, Doubletrap, trap, skeet once hunting seasons are done.
shoot well!
