The spring which actuates the interceptor latch on a 1100 Magnum has broken and needs replacement. Ordered one off eBay and it is on the way.
Installation looks tricky. Any experiemced tricks or special steps recommended?
Any/all comments appreciated. Regards...

I believe I read that a new spring can carefully be slid under the staked latch. There was a pretty good instructional thread somewhere, but I can't seem to find it now. I don't remember if it was on TS.com or not. Not sure if it helps, but Brownells has a pdf on installation meant for use with a tool they sell.

Thanks for message. I'll do some looking. Hoping to just carefully slide new one in vs. having to remove little clip & latch.

The good news is that the interceptor latch retainers (clip) are still readily available, from Brownell's unlike many parts. The thicker retainer is meant to prevent movement of the latch on worn studs, but it does not sound like that's your problem.

Keep us posted, and I'll let you know if I manage to find the how-to. I do recall specifically that snap ring pliers should be used to remove it, as it's easy to overdo and make the retainer sprung.

Will keep you posted. Planning on 2 things:
#1 will check the spring closely to see if it is really broken or the top arm of spring slipped out of groove on latch. May be able to slip it back in place with dental pick. #2 will be getting a "C" clip pliers in case the latch needs to be removed.
A good gunsmith friend has offered to help, but his specialty is o/u & sxs.
Mercifully, no urgency involved ... hunting season over. Stand by.

The spring is staked in place, and you probably have half the old spring still staked, so that needs to be removed before the new one can be installed. If you don't have a staking tool you'll need to borrow or buy one, I believe the feed latch staking tool can be used. It can probably be done with the latch in place, but that means you're trying to stake it while it's under tension, doing it with the latch out is potentially easier.

It is a lot easier to remove the interceptor latch to install the new spring. I just installed the newer version of the interceptor latch and replaced the spring at the same time. My spring was not broke I am sure you can remove the broken spring with needle nose pliers. A decent set of snap ring pliers are a must. Very simple fix. Let us know how you get along with the project.

Nice pic and explanation. The Q&A (1st question with Brownells answering here) agrees with you about using this tool for this particular project. I have no personal knowledge to confirm or deny.

ScubaSteve, skeet_man, & JohnTrigger, F3Sporter,
THANKS MUCH! (emhasis intentional) your pics, experience, & guidance REALLY APPRECIATED.
Hallelujah ... carefully looked at the spring and compared to pics. It wasn't broken ... the top (straight) part of the spring had just slipped out of the groove on the interceptor latch and was underneath latch. So I carefully used a metal dental pick and delicately retrieved spring and got it back into the groove in the latch. Got trigger group and action all back together, checked by running inert snap cap hulls through magazine and action. ALL IS WELL! Will do firing/cycling check at club soon.
Your input and encouragement genuinely made this a success.
Thank Again & Best Regards!

Glad it worked out and thanks for the followup. In pouring over forums for my own 1100 woes, I found a lot of posts missing the procedure and result, which doesn't necessarily help anyone in the future. I recognize the photo skeet posted, so maybe that was the post I couldn't find.
