So I have Citori CX coming this week and in my excitement and anticipation and reading all the related threads and posts I was wondering whether it makes sense to have an adjustable comb installed from the start? How would you know otherwise if it makes a difference or not? I have gleaned the importance of having it fitted and am believing at this point an adjustable comb is an integral step or am I just overthinking this whole process?
Unless your physique is far out of the norm, the CX will likely fit just fine. Whether or not it shoots high enough for you is another matter, and that issue is most commonly resolved with an adjustable comb. So, shoot it first and see what you think, unless you have some gross deformity that interferes with mounting a gun.

Adjustable combs are like American Express.

Never leave home without one. Its a super important feature of a trapshooting firearm in my opinion. I don't order nor shoot any without one. My eye MUST align so the gun shoots where I look. I gain 10-15 lbs during winter and early spring. With the adjustable comb I can adapt and the adapt again when I lose it.

Ol' docbombay might be onto something with the adjustable comb being the gateway drug to adjustability addiction.
I had Tron do an adjustable comb on my CX 2 years ago. I took it to the state shoot and had Rod have a look at my gun fit/mount and he thought I needed an adjustable butt plate to compensate for a very slight cant I put on the gun when I mount it. That thought has been gnawing at me ever since.
What's even worse, is I keep trying to convince my daughter to let me send her CXS stock to Tron for a comb and pad plate.

However, regardless how well it works, and I have no doubt it does. I would never put a PFS on one of my guns. Those things are just plain ugly IMHO.

What are you going to shoot with the gun? Trap? Trap and sporting? Field use? You will shoot it a few times out of the box to see how it does, right? I have gone to an adjustable comb and prefer it for clays shooting. So I would make the decision early on. I move my comb when I switch between trap and sporting clays. My gun is a Beretta and it had too much drop right out of the box for me.

Being a newbie to all of this I will now have to look up who Michael Diamond is.
the greatest ISSF trap (bunker) shooter of all time. He was so dominant the ISSF had to change the rules to give anyone else a chance. Dual Olympic gold, Olympic and World record, numerous World championships.

Also holds the Down The Line Trap long break record of 2000+.

Fixed comb flat rib MX8. Friend of mine now owns it.

Speechless, must have been a pleasure to watch compete!!

I just got my CXT stock back from Tron with a new adjustable comb and butt pad. Going to shoot on sunday and see how works with the new stock. Turn around time was 10 days and it looks perfect. More to come once I shoot it and some photos.

Kitty will do an excellent job cutting your comb! Best part is when it’s time to ship your stock back it’s cushioned with a bunch of Kitty’s fur. The ultimate packaging material!
Is that a new thing or was I cheated?
Mine came back wrapped in plain old packing material.
Sure wish my cat were trained to cut stocks the way Tron's is

Shoot a few hundred birds with your CX to get comfortable with it, then decide if you need to have it cut. It may be OK out of the box. If not, you may only need an adjustable recoil pad and not an adjustable comb. Adjustability is nice, but why spend the money if the gun fits you without it. Do what you need to get the proper fit. Fit is important.

Lots of good points made. If you are the "average person" the mfg makes the stock to fit and you are one of those, then do as suggested, shoot a bunch of rounds and get comfortable and even do pattern board. Me, I would take it to a stock fitter and get their opinion, or just buy a gunfitting book like Don Curries "Gunfitting" and check out how a stock should fit you and I think you will come to the conclusion that at the very least an adjustable comb probably one of the better things you decoded to do.
