So I have Citori CX coming this week and in my excitement and anticipation and reading all the related threads and posts I was wondering whether it makes sense to have an adjustable comb installed from the start? How would you know otherwise if it makes a difference or not? I have gleaned the importance of having it fitted and am believing at this point an adjustable comb is an integral step or am I just overthinking this whole process?

Well, if it were me, I’d send it to Tronspace Stockworks and be done with it. Joe has done two for me for a very reasonable price and a one week turnaround including ship time. I really think at some time or another you will want to adjust that comb. His work is quality and it will look good even if you decide you don’t need it. Adds to resale value too if you decide to sell it later on.
The only way that you will ever know is to go shoot it . It may or may not work for you with out having a adjustable comb. Nobody can say whether you do or not over the internet.
All the guns that I shoot have adjustable combs , but that’s me . Full adjustability is always nice to have on any gun and desired when selling..

Start with the pattern board,live clay targets... not just straight a- ways or maybe practice mounting should be first; then to Tron if required?

I have (or have had) a 686 trap; 682 X trap and a Rottweil 72 AAT. All fixed. I shot some excellent scores with the 682 particularly. The Rotty with its MC stock and 10mm raised rib shoots like the X trap.
My main gun is adjustable, but hasn't been adjusted beyond 2 washers and a tiny movement of the comb to the right (about 1/16th) for 2 years.
Fixed CAN work if the gun fits you. Shoot it for 500 targets and then decide.

A little late to have it done by the gun dealer now!!!
Once you get your new shotgun. Mount the shotgun in a mirror. Close your eyes when you mount the gun. First get the gun comfortable in your shoulder pocket. Then get your cheek place where it feels right. Now Open your Eyes and look down the barrel. Your two beads should line up perfectly like a figure 8. Your eyes (and shoulders) need to be level to the ground as well. If you have to lower your head down toward the gun. That's not Good!!! You can't shoot well if your eyes are not level. So you need a adj. butt plate to raise the guns stock up to your face. You never want to lower your head to the gun. Next, if your beads line up off-set or next to one another? Then you need a adj. comb to move your eye side to side to line up the beads. If you can't see the end bead of the gun? Then you need to raise your eye up to get the figure 8. So once again you need a adj. comb. I hope this explains gunfitting 101. You need to ask around your local gun clubs to find a good stock fitter that all the regulars use. A good stock-fitter will fix you up. If you wait too long to get your gun fitted to you? You can develop some real bad habits very quickly. It can take 3-4 times longer to get rid of your bad habits. So do the test I gave you above and see if you need a stock fitter. If so, get to one rather quickly.
PS I did not go into detail about LOP and how the recoil pad hits your shoulder pocket. The pad needs to hit your shoulder even at the bottom and the top. Only a good gun fitter can check your stocks pitch and LOP for you. Good Luck and don't forget to break em all jeff

Pull and Mark is giving you good advice. Not all people are built the same so the addition of the comb is money well spent. I have heard tell that over time some people get larger or smaller and things change a bit. If it isn't perfect for you, it would be money well spent.

And you are soon shooting up with an adjustable rib. Always looking for a better high, you start playing with pitch shortly after. There is no end. And all the adjustable pieces you added ultimately become the stock equivalent of the Rubik"s cube!
You make the choice, you go to the dark side, you buy a PFS. Oh the wonders it provides! It is the end of the rainbow, everything is adjustable. You have arrived at the Promised Land.
Your dark journey has cost you untold thousands of dollars.
And for most, that journey's end is back at the starting line.

I would recommend buying Phil Kiner's tape it gives some great tips on gun set up. It really turned my shooting around my gun has a adj Comb and a adjustable rib. He shows how to adjust on gun without these too well worth it.
