Some years back I bought a 8# jug of 800X. Tried to load up some 28ga shells on a progressive press, a 650. I was getting shots from normal to watching the shot load get half way to station 8. Drops were all over the place. I called Mec and was told it can't be used for small gauges with small drops on a progressive press. The bar doesn't stay under the powder bottle long enough to fill the same every time. So, being hardheaded, I'd rap the side of the powder bottle when the bar was under it. That worked but was too much trouble. Still have about 4#s of it.

i used it in a mec grabber , 20 gauge and 7/8 oz shot , 16.5 grains , rem or win hull . best 20 gauge load i found after win 473 ran out .
pull the handle , while bushing was under powder jar i would tap the end of the charge bar lightly a couple of times with a screwdriver handle . never had a blooper or misfire , winter or summer .
slow process but that didn't bother me .

Sadly, due to declining health a friend of mine is no longer shooting. He has offered to sell me an 8# jug of 800X at a VERY reasonable price. I’ve not loaded 800X before. Best uses - gauge, loads, etc. Looking for factory tested recipes.

Thanks in advance.
Has worked nicely in 28 ga loads for me, if you reload 28s? You do need to monitor the drops though.

Reloading 800X by volume (using bushings) frustrated me to no end. I ended up using my stash using a RCBS ChargeMaster to reliably and accurately measure powder weight by trickling the powder slowly to a pre-determined weight.
