I have for sale a Winchester Model 42 – $2,500 asking price + $75 for packing in plastic gun case, boxing it, and shipping.
I believe that this gun is priced right but I'm open to reasonable offers....emphasis on reasonable.
I've gotten older (well, old haha) and just don't use it. This is a beautiful gun and is perfect for any Winchester aficionados.
I have attached pics below and am more than willing to send potential buyers any additional pictures and/or higher res pictures that may be required.
"I'll take it" in this thread has dibs and than please follow up with a PM with your contact info. In turn, I will supply my full contact info and suggest that a short telephone convo is appropriate and prudent to satisfy all parties that this is indeed a legit transaction.
I was an active member of TS.com for many, many years but have not been active on shotgun boards for quite a while. But, upon request I can supply many references for my good reputation and honesty here, on SGW, and on Sniper's Hide.

Gun Description:
- Skeet grade as indicated on the barrel
- Metal and wood has never been refinished
- Red period correct Noshoc butt pad
- Serial # 1317xx (this is a 1958 shotgun)
- 26” barrel including original Cutts Compensator (25 9/16” as are they all)
- 2 1/2" chamber!
- Simmons donut post vent rib
- Three Cutts Chokes
- Full
- Spreader/skeet
- Cylinder (I think….no markings which is not unusual for these old choke tubes)
- Original Lyman Cutts choke tube wrench
- While I do not have any provenance documentation to prove it, I and a number of Win collectors have concluded that this was a Simmons marketed gun. At the time, Simmons would buy barrels and receivers from Winchester, add their rib, add wood, and sell it as an upgraded Model 42. Things that support this speculation (as we have no proof) are:
- No proof marks on barrel or receiver. Simmons would get the parts from Win, assemble and sell the gun, and not proof mark it. If it was an upgraded field gun faked to be VR skeet gun, there would be Win proof marks under the rib and there are not.
- Ebony and engraved silver (steel maybe?) grip cap which are indicative of Simmons marketed Mod 42’s
- Here is an example of an auction of a Simmons marketed Mod 42 and as you can see in the picture there is a silver and engraved grip cap.
