With steel shot you will get way more pellets per shell than you will get with the same weight load of lead shot.
1 ounce of steel #6 shot has about 313 pellets.
1-3/8 once of lead #6 shot has about 309 pellets.

A 1-1/4 oz lead Mec charge bar will drop close to 7/8 oz of steel #6 or #7 shot.

So you you generally keep same weights of powder and shot. Simply swap charge bar for steel equivalent?
Or should shot volume be kept same?
The shot volume does not need to be the same. 1-1/8 oz lead shot volume has about the same amount of pellets as a 1-1/2 oz lead shot volume.

You will need to use steel shot loading data. My Mec 600 Junior with lead shot bars loaded steel shot in sizes #6 and #7 just fine.

Contacted Winchester this fall when our local club could only find -AA steel shot shells -- Right on the shell case it says "not to reload". --looked just like the gray AA's - Winchester claimed it was a heaver wall, special for steel shot -- would the reverse apply to steel in lead shot case?

As has been stated, you have to abide by steel reloading data when loading steel.

Not much of anything can be crossed over other than hulls and primers. You will typically use a slower powder and completely different wad.

First you need 6s or 7 size steel shot, You need steel wads which are thicker than normal lead wads, You need to use a slower burning powder not the hotter stuff. And a good manual about steel shot . You may also want to check out the choke. Modified will give you a full choke with steel I believe. There are folks who use a full choke shooting steel Im sure they will chime in and tell you about it.

Wondering why you need to load steel shot in target loads? Are you shooting places that don't allow lead shot? There are some clubs that may not want you to use steel shot at their range. So you better ask before shooting steel. Our sporting clays range does not allow it. Also, wondering how your new PW 950 elite will handle loading steel. It is set up to load lead .

I feel it’s the responsible thing to do.
I thought I had read the two sites available on public lands near me didn’t allow it.
I came into a source of free/near free steel shot.
No idea… I’ve yet to see it. I don’t see why it cannot be set up for whatever you like with the right dies

You really need to get your hands on a Steel Shot Loading Manual.
You are not listening to what everyone here is trying to explain, so
just maybe if you read it in a book, you will then comprehend that there
are major differences in loading the two different types of shot.
No, it will not run thru your PW 950 Elite. That machine is designed
for lead shot.
