A young shooter ask me tonight about New BR-5 military surplus powder -- He was told to use a Unique powder Rate - start low and work your load up - I have never read any shotgun loads for this powder -- and as a new reloader, I told him to stay clear?? has any one used It?

Pass on the unknown!!!
Unless you have proper equipment for testing burn rate, pressure, temperature at ignition, and a HOST of other tests.........jmho......m

I've bought and used surplus military powders for years - that being said all came from reputable sources, and each came with specific loading data - or a statement that said 'this powder should be loaded using the data for XYZ powder 123.'
Unless there was clear data/info that the powder was a Unique analog I'd pass on it.

I'm just getting ready to crack open a 8# can of WC 820 (surplus carbine powder) to load some 410s. Can drop down to the #11 bushing in my Grabber from the #12 bushing I use with 296 and Alliant 410. Same data as Accurate #9 and can be used in 44 mag and 10mm as well. Lots of useful surplus powders.
