Hello,
I started target shooting about two years ago - trap (16 yards) for the first 6 months then about a year and a half ago I switched to skeet (single).

I reached about 90-93 % average score about 6 months ago. The usual misses occur on the central stations: 3, 4 and 5. About one month ago I started missing the high on station 2. I've read that many right-handed shooters consider that a difficult target, but for some reasons it never bothered me, until recently that is. The missing on high two both in the single and double have now become consistent. Today I decided to practice 50 rounds on high 2 and to my disbelief I hit it less than 10 times out of the 50. I checked my shooting records and I confirmed that not even when I was new to skeet I would miss it that much.

I have not changed gun, shells or anything significant to me but obviously something is not right. All the other targets are broken fine, actually I see a slight improvements on the central ones.

As any one with more experience gone through something like it and how did he overcome it?

Thank you.
I don't shoot skeet much anymore, but I shot a lot of it in the past while in college. On hi 2 make sure your gun is well below the target. The hi house target is dropping from the time it leaves the house. I'll bet you're shooting over it. Start with the gun pointed about a third of the way to the center stake, about 3-4 ft below the height of the opening and look with your eyes towards it. The low house target it rising till it's past the stake, the hi is falling from the start, you have to shoot them accordingly.

Get Tod Bender's Championship Skeel video. Watch it until you master his method of shooting high two. High two is all about the start. You must move on the "flash" to consistently break high two.

My guess is that you are either lifting your head to see if the target breaks or you are checking your lead. You need to clear your head, concentrate on the target and be aggressive. A few hits will lead to confidence and the issue will go away. You do need to make sure your hold point is correct and consistent and that you are looking in the right place for the target.

Because I believe in the purity of this site, because I have been here since the beginning. Because I like others shot other sports during those early years we didn’t bring it to the site. Because I’m told by outsiders that I have to change my opinion on what they post. Because trapshooters were never welcomed to shoot registered skeet years ago, we were treated like mongrels.

For this I am labeled a ‘Grumpy Old Man”. I guess it fits as I’m 81, I’ve shot over 500,000 registered trap targets, love my sport and resent other sports trying to take over this site as their own. Newbies coming on here and lecturing us about getting along.

By the way crossing targets are a piece of cake.

For what it's worth, I carried A averages at singles and all four skeet gauges when I was shooting. Jack of a trades and master of none comes to mind....lots of folks at our club shot all the games. what was interesting to me was that the trapshooters were consistently better across the board than the skeet shooters - that is, we could shoot skeet, but they struggled at trap. And teams of trapshooters did better at league - where you had to shoot trap, skeet and five stand.

I agree that it is sad that someone wants to make people who shoot shoot skeet feel uncomfortable. I am first and foremost a skeet shooter, but I own 2 trap fields. Shooting a shotgun is shooting a shotgun. I learned a long time ago that the fundamentals are the same. One thing about trap, it forces you to use your eyes properly. I have learned a few things on the trap field that help my skeet game. It is odd that the 2 games tend to attract different personalities. In skeet, one guy shoots and 4 guys stand around and BS. In trap, everyone shoots until the round is done. I know a lot of very friendly trap shooters and I know a few grumpy skeet shooters, but it is not the norm.

Targetorange: Maybe you ought to put on your reading glasses. It says Trap Shooting Forum and under that it says shooting related threads. No where does it say bring your skeet or sporting posts.

Why the bah, humbug? The clay target shooting fraternity should not be exclusive, but rather, inclusive. The guy has asked a simple question. There are a lot of multi-discipline shooters on this forum. Any and all questions related to the clay target sports should be welcomed.
