I was in Meridian, MS, and on Tuesday my companion wanted something from the closest Walmart. I looked at the sporting goods section. They had NO shotgun ammo, but they did have a dozen assorted rifles and shotguns. That surprised me. No, I did not take pictures.

I have watched small gun shops closing their doors living in Denver since 1971. I never had a conversation with a small business gun store that said Walmart was hurting him, he always blamed the big box sporting goods stores. Places like Cabela’s, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Sports Authority, Dicks, Bass Pro and other big box sporting goods stores. will still be in business after Walmart stops selling guns and ammo and will get cheaper pricing on ammo because of their volume buying.

Speaking of empty shelves, I got a news email from Winchester. Topic was “how to properly store ammunition.“ What ammunition?

On the plus side (if there is a plus side), Walmart dropping out opens it up for local small distributors; Mom and Pop stores.
While I appreciate this sentiment Wally was pretty much the only game in town for trap loads. The local gun shop has maybe 3 boxes of sts for $15.99 each. The next closest lgs is breaking down Federal 4 packs and selling them for $25 a box. Makes it hard to support the lgs when they clearly don't support their customer base.

Sounds like a ammunition desert. Not unlike the grocery desert in downtown Detroit.

Been Like that in NJ for years. I'm glad I live 3 miles from the PA border, and Walmart 4 miles from me. I hope PA does not fold to the Bunny Huggers like in NJ
Walmart pulled all the ammo and guns from the Philadelphia stores years ago. They did not want lawsuits from improper use. I think a lot was walking out of the stores too. hard to answer to the ATF. The surrounding suburbs still sold it.

Ironically, Walmart has pulled guns and ammo as a result of lawsuits from pro-gun groups. Walmart and local chain BiMart wanted to restrict sales to 21+ and the state courts have ruled the policy is in violation of the state age discrimination rules. As soon as the ruling came through Walmart pulled the guns and ammunition.

Well, hard to know when they decided, there's no date on that. The goods were pulled on 11/2. But pretty clear it's an outcome of the 10/13 ruling & the related BOLI actions.
How is it clear? And what does the the Bureau of Labor and industries have to do with this? I am genuinely curious as this is the first I have heard BOLI mentioned in this or any firearms related convo.

It's clear because that's the only relevant change in the landscape to account for Wally World's change in policy.

The court case was about BiMart but BOLI ruled against Walmart in related complaints. I believe there were several but for example: https://www.thechronicleonline.com/...-18-year-old-faces-5k-penalty/article_3c3a9484-ac93-11e8-b451-8fb4ab6cb082.html
Thanks for the link, that is the first time I have seen BOLI referenced in the news about firearms and accessories.
