Practice traps normally open at least one hour before the regular program begins. They are open throughout the day. Purchase at the cashier window at the Practice Building (West side) or Practice Trailer (East side) behind the practice traps.

Go , shoot good , and have fun . Pace yourself on taking in the vendors . Try not to do it all in the first few days . Expect hot ,muggy days and little shade . Drink lots of fluids and snack lightly during the events . Take plenty of bug spray and have a change of dry clothes with you daily . The place is huge . 3.5 miles long . You can easily drive 100 miles on the grounds alone during the whole shoot . Have fun and shoot good.....
JB wants me to relay info that you only need one pair of underwear, as you can turn them inside out every day. Unless, of course, you are one of those high falutins …bring two pair.

If I understand correctly you can shoot practice rounds in AM. I was wondering if you have to sign up for that ,sure DON'T QUALIFY FOR ANYTHING ELSE LOL
PRACTICE TRAPS: "The practice traps are located on the West and East trap lines (8 traps). Practice traps will open Monday, August 2 and Tuesday, August 3 at 8:00 A.M. Practice will open during the remainder of the shoot at least one hour before the regular shooting program begins. Practice tokens are only available at the cashier window at the Practice Building (West side) and the Practice Trailer (East side) just behind the practice traps. Practice Rounds: 25 bird practice - $7.00 and 12 pair Doubles - $7.00".-------------The above is copied from the grand program. It looks like they will be using Tokens this year Also I hear they WILL NOT provide a "score keeper" at the practice traps so, you will have to either keep tack of your score or have someone watching from the back ground.

The trap houses are larger than anywhere I've seen.
You'll likely have to tweak your shooting stile to be effective.
The target speed is set by radar from the 16 yard line. Because the traps are large the radar gun picks up the speed farther out and makes them a bit faster .
The faster the speed the wider apart the doubles will be.
Shoot good and take it all in.

I call BS on all of the above. The trap houses are standard size.

A stationary object has no affect on radar detecting a moving object, which makes the third point moot.

Using a radar gun check the speed off the arm and then check from the 16 yard line.
You will find a faster reading off the arm and would get more consistent speed regardless of the size of the house or how far out of the house the radar picks up the target.

" Arm speed" is not mentioned anywhere in the ATA rule book that I can find.
Seems it has nothing to do with setting targets legal targets. .

For new attendees, the Federal and Remington brands are in the same building since Vista purchased Remington's ammunition business. The actual location, for those who have attended in the past, is in the former Remington building behind the practice traps. The former Federal building is now some other business.

I am referring to section F page 47
When a radar gun is used from inside the house the correct speed for singles and handicap is 44 to 45 mph.
This would be the "ATA legal" off the arm speed.

Which is why the speed is set at a minimum of 42mph and a maximum of 44mph when set from the 16 yard line, as per the rule book.

Are you sure about that??
It always pays to go to the ATA website and look at the CURRENT rule book. Especially the section right up front that lists and highlights all the changes for the new target year. Yep, two kinds of radar guns, two ways to use them, different standards depending on the circumstances. I'll bet a case of AA Heavy 7 1/2's that the traphouses at the WSRC are within the size limits outlined in the rules. They may be different than some of the houses that we shoot off of at our home clubs, but they're certainly within specs. While it may change the way we SEE the target, it won't change the speed of the target when measured according to the guidelines.

I am an advocate for following ATA rules to set the best possible targets for the shooters.
Thanks for pointing out the rules changes and for the debate.
I think that if this topic needs further attention that we should start a new thread on this topic.
