I am heading to my first Grand American next month. Since I retired, I have run up about 4000 registered singles, 3000 handicap targets and the biggest shoot I have been to was the Autumn Grand in Tucson. Just wanted to give you an idea of my situation. So, I'd love to hear anything the people on this forum think I should know. I have studied all the information, pre squaded, pre classified and cashiered, and have my lodging reserved. What else should I do or expect?

The only thing left is to shoot and have fun! Don't forget to spend lots of cash at the vendors!

Go , shoot good , and have fun . Pace yourself on taking in the vendors . Try not to do it all in the first few days . Expect hot ,muggy days and little shade . Drink lots of fluids and snack lightly during the events . Take plenty of bug spray and have a change of dry clothes with you daily . The place is huge . 3.5 miles long . You can easily drive 100 miles on the grounds alone during the whole shoot . Have fun and shoot good.....

I advise you to Pre squad . Now you can pre squad classify and pay all on line if you choose. That will keep you from standing in long lines at the event center. I always shoot early and then shop. You can drive up to your bank but bring your walking shoes because you will cover a lot of ground on foot just shopping . The vendors are split into two groups. The permanent buildings on the west end and the tent vendors on the east. If you need gun smith work ,most of them (except the company ones) are in the tent vendor area. Be sure and try some of the homemade peach ice cream. It's not cheap but there is NON Better! There are several food vendors in the tent vendor area and a snack bar plus a full service restaurant in the main event building . Read the program thoroughly . Enjoy and have fun !

Hopefully you’ll get to experience AJs homemade ice cream this year. Haven’t been there in a few years so hopefully they return. I called them and they said the fees to vend had gone up considerably and they stopped coming. I don’t know if that’s true, but that’s what the young man told me. Closest thing to my grandmothers homemade ice cream that I’ve ever had.

The trap houses are larger than anywhere I've seen.
You'll likely have to tweak your shooting stile to be effective.
The target speed is set by radar from the 16 yard line. Because the traps are large the radar gun picks up the speed farther out and makes them a bit faster .
The faster the speed the wider apart the doubles will be.
Shoot good and take it all in.
