I havent gotten anyone to buy them so can I shoot them?
38 short Colts are very scare since they don't make them anymore. These are different than 38 s&w. The short colts are smaller in diameter. On the internet these are pretty expensive. 38 Long Colts (you can shoot short colt in a long colt) have not been made in probably 80 years. Short colts were made in the early 90's, not sure when since then.

I do not have any 38 short colt ammo to measure or are they in my reloading books. I can tell you that the 38 special and the 38 S&W are two different cartridges. The 38 spcl case measures .379", bullet is .357". The 38 S&W case measures .386" in diameter, bullet is .361". You should not interchange the two. Regards, Bob

I have two pistols that use 38 short colt, inherited from ex-police uncle. Still interested in selling the ammo? I’m in PA.
Where in Pa??? I have 2 boxes.
Do NOT turn a shooting related thread into a want to buy or for sale thread......period.Have the proper etiquette and use the PM system as per forum rules.

The case diameter is the same for either cartridge.

The difference is the bullet.

38 short colt uses a wasted bullet, that is the front part of the bullet is nearly the diameter of the O D of the case, .375 compared to .379. the back part of the bullet is the I D of the case .357. The 38 colt short cartridge came out of converting existing cap and ball revolvers to cartridges, the cap and ball cylinders have straight chamber walls where the later cartridge revolvers the chamber walls neck down to bullet diameter.

All the writers and lawyers say that these .018 (18 thousandths) well blow up you revolver. I may not agree but the 38 colt short bullets are larger then the 38 special bullets. The fired casing can be reloaded as a shorter 38 special type round with ease.

Al

I remembered the wasted bullets, but not trusting my memory I looked the cartridge comparison up the dimensions are from looking the cartridges up. The case outside dimensions are the same just not bullet diameter.
