I've been trapshooting for about 27 years already but I'm new to trapshooters.com. here lately I've been experimenting with some light reloads using the 3/4 ounce claybuster and really like them for 16 yard targets. I shoot a model 12 and dont like much recoil so I'm wondering what are some favorite loads of everyone's with the 3/4 ounce. I've used 700x red dot and clay dot. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated nobody I shoot with uses them. Thanks!

I use Remington hulls, Federal 209A primers or WW209 primers, with CB 3/4 OZ wads( I actually prefer the grey 7/8 oz wad for 3/4 or 7/8) or DR-XXL-1 Pink wads, using 16.5 Grains of Extra-Lite by Alliant and 3/4 oz of shot. These loads are tested safe with 7/8 oz as well.

15 grains of Red Dot or Promo work really well.
Great load - where I live it gets cold enough in the winter that this might cause a round or two to just go 'pop' rather than 'bang' if you leave the ammo in the truck overnight. If so just up the Promo/Red Dot a wee bit... I think I load 15.4 of Promo (forget the exact weight - it is written on the front of the loader) under 7/8 ounce of shot.

Here's a 3/4 ounce 12 gauge load that I've used at skeet for several years. It also works well for most presentations at sporting clays, except for the longer shots. 3/4 ounce of West Coast shot, 16.3 grains of e3 powder, Claybuster CB0175-12 wad, and Winchester 209 primer in either AAHS or Remington hulls.

I tighten up to LF and XF and have no complaints to and at 40 yards. It's not my gameday load but it's a lot of fun to shoot!

If you put the shot on the target it will break. Target doesn’t know how much lead was thrown at it.
I have no problem with shooters going to lighter shot charges because of recoil sensitivity or cost savings, but the theory of the target doesn't know how much shot is thrown at it suggest you should lower your shot charges even further. Maybe 1/2 ounce., 1/4 ounce, or even lower. I heard it only takes 3 or 4 pellets to break a target so anything more must be a waste.

Here's my go to 3/4 oz load. I use it exclusively for skeet. I have also used it for 5 stand if the course it set up with close shots and 16 yd trap practice. I use 8 shot in these scenarios.

STS 12 ga hull
W209
15 gr. Extra Lite
CB-0175-12
3/4 oz of 8.5 or 8 shot

I used 700X when I first started loading 3/4 oz. They broke targets fine but were really dirty compared to Extra Lite.

My skeet load is :

Rem hull
14.5gr extra lite
Win 209
CB0175-12 Wad
3/4oz #9 shot

I shoot all my loads at about 400 pellets

3/4 oz - #9
7/8 oz - #8.5
1 oz - # 8
1-1/8 oz - #7.5

Then I think about what is needed to break the target.

I see guys shooting 1-1/8 oz of 7.5s at skeet because they shoot the same load at everything and they think that they have an advantage to their load over my 3/4oz # 9. Then I tell them that a skeet target breaks solid with 9s and I have more pellets in my load than they do. Yes I do know that 3 pellets of a 7.5 load will break a target and it may take 5 # 9 pellets, but I have seen an increase of my scores with 3/4oz and especially with doubles due to recoil. This is all on the skeet field. My standard load on SC or 16 yard trap is 1oz or 1-1/8 oz.

I’m not recoil sensitive, but can get on the second target faster with less recoil. My best skeet scores were with 1oz #8.5 on singles and the second shot of doubles and with 3/4oz #9 on the first shot of doubles.
