I’ll never know if having a custom fitted stock improves my shooting.
Not going there.
Most of the competition shotguns I've owned and used were fitted to me by me. I've had several guns custom re-stocked by Perazzi, Essevierre and stockers in the UK gun trade. In doing so I've never found anything that enabled me to shoot better or more comfortably than starting with a standard factory skeet or trap stock and carrying out the obvious adjustments for LoP, pitch, comb height and cast.

A guy I shoot with occasionally has a K-80 with a Wenig stock. He had the stock specially made. I don't know what it cost. It's certainly from a beautiful piece of wood which has been superbly finished. He's about my height and build, right-handed with a right master eye (as far as I know), however, his stock's shape is nothing like what I'd ever consider for my own use.

A friend and squadmate has a Wenig stock, he shoots better than he used to but not sure if the stock really has anything to do with that. I think he has just gotten better.
I think the stock fit has more to do with less felt recoil more than anything else but could be totally wrong on that.

If anyone believes a custom stock is going to magically turn an average shooter into the next Harlan or other top class shooter they’re in for a rude awakening. Talent in those quantities isn’t for sale and can’t be attained by simply getting a new gun or stock.
That said, I’ve had numerous stocks made at Wenig for various guns and have never seen better work done by anyone else. Jimmy has been excellent with getting a stock fitted to me and the end results have always felt great and allowed me to shoot the best I’m capable of. You get what you pay for.

Devault never did DIY.

There's plenty of other stockmakers throughout the country, esp for the SC crowd, Wenig and Devault cater overwhelmingly cater to trapshooters.
Yes, I know he didn't do the DIY stocks. I wanted a complete stock with glove grip. His prices seemed more reasonable than Wenig, and he was within driving distance.

As for trap stocks....I pretty much think the American Skeet stock and the American trap stock have morphed in to the same thing these days....Monte Carlo with Parallel comb.

Wenig does beautiful work, and I intended to have Them build Me a stock. The fact that They would charge Me money for a blank, when I was going to provide My own was kind of a turn-off. In the end it was this website that sent Me in a different direction. Hbar314 was having a new stock built a few years ago, and he documented it on this site. I PM’d Him and asked about His stock builder/fitter. He loved this Guy, and had quite a bit of experience having custom fit stocks made for Himself over the years. Thanks Hbar314 for the info on Russ Disguesaldo! I did some basic research on Russ on this site, followed up by a few phone calls to folks like Phil Kiner, and Mike Storeim of Evergreen Sporting Arms. I was sold. Not one person out of several customers, had anything bad to say about Russ Disguesaldo. I ended up having a stock built by Him. My Brother-in-law had 2 stocks built by Him at the same time. It is rare in these days to find old-world Craftsmen, that do such beautiful work, and have such pride in it, like Russ. We both felt like We got more than Our moneys worth. When it was all said and done,

We both tipped Him. I plan on Having Him build My wife a stock next year. So Yeah, Wenig does beautiful work, but there are other small companies that do work, as good, and maybe better. Just My 2 cents.
