wad, i have the hyscore vice. I like it alot. For what it is it works. It isnt meant to change barrels on a remmy 700 but mouting scopes cleaning rifles, it holds its own. Ive done alot with this vice and im very happy with my purchase. I really didn't think it would hold up.

I own many.

From an MTM 'cleaning cradle' to large 90 degree lead plates that mount in a regular 4" vice.

I have numerous plastic inserts designed to cover vice jaws. Many are gun specific - think AR-15 magazine well & upper receiver clamp.

I also have ones from Europe - one is heavy rubber and will hold a double barreled shot gun (or a single barrel) in two well designed cutouts (12 & 20). I have the same thing in aluminum for heavier clamping (this risks leaving some aluminum on the barrel - comes off with a lot of oil and some 0000 steel wool with no pressure) This can be used with many rifle barrels as well.

@skeeljc that’s the one I’ve got... and dislike. I find the clamps just too flimsy, and the body of the unit flexes unless the tension is adjusted EXACTLY.
Unless you are using it to remove a barrel the Tipton works just fine. Yes the body flexes when you close the clamps but the clamps hold the gun just fine. It is fully adjustable and at $75 it is a good buy.

Thanks guys for the ideas and input.

I was looking at my bench this morning thinking I could probably build something that hinges under my bench when not in use but I could flip it up and onto the bench and bolt it down when necessary. If I buy the wooden vice hardware and build a similar mounting system as @Number2 has in his posts above, I think it'll work and not clutter my bench when not needed and always have a home.

I know there's some good options to hold the gun but I also don't want whatever holds it to move either. This is what damn near put my new Guerini on the floor of my shop the other night, the gun wasn't moving, the cheap POS stand that was holding was.

Wad, here are some more pics. The cost of the vise is $22 on amazon some scrap 2x4 and you are good.

Very interesting..... can you show us what this looks like with a gun in the vise, and what purpose these two transverse boards serve? At first I thought they slid in and out, but I see they are screwed in place...

Looks like something I'd have on my bench, doesn't it ;)
Added stability would be my guess for the second board.

Jaburg1, the 2 boards are to add stability to the vise, so wad is correct. The vise does not slide around on a bench because it can be screwed down through the support frame or clamped to the bench. I usually don’t put a fully assembled shotgun in the vise because I have no need for that. However, the vise will hold a barrel or receiver for doing maintenance such as cleaning or firing pin maintenance and replacement with no problems. I would be happy to explain all the great things that this vise is capable of the next time I see you. This as you know is taking me many more words than I am used to using in more than a month. I can’t wait to get on the trap field with you and hope you are doing well. Wow, this is so long winded for me. I have really outdone myself. Take care.

Jaburg1: “Number2, I've known you for a long time, and although you’re a good friend, you really seem to be a man of very few words, and even though you hate people, you never say you hate people because then it would make people think you hate them, when you really like them, as people”.

Number2: yes.

.

Jaburg1, I knew you would feel the love! Another good friend of ours sent me something the other day that said: “I have been stuck at home for so long now that I am beginning to miss people that I don’t even like” Hopefully things will start to get better soon and we can get back on the trap field.

Man, what could possibly be sweeter than that. I'm sure it's been asked before, why Guerini over KX6 S ? What model ?
After shooting the Zoli for a while, I knew I was done with the K gun. Totally different feeling between the two and the Z just blows the K gun out of the water in my opinion.

Challenger combo. Because I wanted it and it feels and moves almost identical to the gun I shot the best...my TriStar TT15.

So I didn't necessarily choose the CG over the K gun, I chose the Zoli. Built better, feels better and in my opinion, will outlast he K gun.
