Just recently purchased a Trius One Step Trap thrower off of Amazon. Assembled it this weekend and tried it out. Wow, for less than $100 this is a really solid little trap thrower. It's fully adjustable, very easy to use, and is able to throw doubles. I highly recommend this product if you are looking for your own thrower.

I looked at the Trius and decided against it, I didn't want to feel like Captain Morgan while trying to shoot...
I went with a 3/4 cock for a while. I rigged a bass drum pedal and a cable to the thrower arm to allow for a more natural stance and realized walking back and fourth got really old really fast.
I finally did what I should have done in the first place and got the wheely bird. I fabbed a mount for the oscillating base, added a 100' extension and step on the foot pedal which allows a much more natural stance, handicap distances, better target presentation and 50 bird capacity.
I wanted my practice away from the range to mimic it as closely as possible. Next step is to shroud the trap so I cant see the direction prior to launching the bird.

I mainly bought it because my friends are too intimidated to shoot at a legit gun club and I can shoot in my backyard which is nice.
That's a very accurate comment! Partially the same reason I bought the electronic trap was when my girlfriend realized a 12ga semi wasn't as scary as she thought. After a few hours of throwing targets, I cut the stock and fit the gun to her and she loved it that much more. She's still too timid to step up to the line but she's ventured out to a couple of shoots with me.

We have been using the wheely bird also with our shooting group. If you guys want to spice it up with the Wheely Bird, Pick up some Mid Size targets and set them inside the regular clays. It throws them as A nice double.

Freakin' GENIUS! Thanks for the tip!!!

I bought one last year. I use it only occasionally, and Trius is more suitable for me than the professional and expensive thrower like the champion. I can shoot alone without the help of others. It has a tendency to tip over, and I can remedy by hanging the sandbag on the sides of the front leg. Its overall quality is very good and it definitely beats the cheap imitations you see in the sporting goods section.

I'm with wadhopper. I have a wheelybird and aside of stepping up to big time money for a backyard machine it does a great job. I almost bought the trius but realized it was similar to my grandfather's old red devil without the foot pedal. When your not cocking that arm all the time you run through alot more shootable targets in alot less time!! And it's more fun!!

a sporting course near me did something similar. They put a midi over a mini. When the target was thrown you had to hit the mini. The midi was a "poison" bird and if you hit it instead of the mini you got a target deducted from your score besides the missed mini! It could really get you double clutching.

I have both the Trius One Step and the Wheelybird 2.0, I've burned up a lot of shells and targets in the backyard since I got the wheelybird. The WB was just on sale at Amazon for $297 so I decided to try it out.

I have ran thousands of targets through my wheelybird. Very glad I have this setup (thrower/oscillator) and have most certainly gotten my money’s worth out of it in practice.
Check with your local club and see if they’ll let you pick up unbroken targets. If so you’ll likely pay for your investment in the thrower with what your not spending for targets. I’ve picked up hundreds of unbroken targets, sure you can expect a few to break in the thrower but my experience has only been one or two per 100.

Here’s my setup...

On average I’d say I shoot a couple hundred per month this way, weather permitting.

Wadhopper I need to get with you and see how you set up your oscillator on the wheelybird. Thats my next purchase! My question is watching your back foot that controls the switch like me we start on our heel then toe down. It works fine but we need to figure out how to rig a voice activated release to these little machines!

Is yours a Wheelybird also?

Thanks,
